| [#1] Phono stage loading at 100K to 300K wonder.............. is there any Harm if i loading the MM stage at 100K or 300K, but not 47K ? reasons lets say.........if i have a 1:15 ratio SUT, loading at 47K, the MC see the load at about 200 ohm what if....if i change the loading of the MM stage to 200K.............. , so a MC see a loading at 888 ohm ( that loading is nice for some MC such as Benz Micro Ruby..........) lead me to wonder.........is that any harm if i load the MM stage at 200K...300K... etc.. my mind tell me...seem no harm at least nothing should break.......... but i can be quite a fool for electronic... haha as i have 1:10, 1:15..1:20..1:30... | [#4] Phono stage loading at 100K to 300K Some MM cartridge suggested to have 100k ohms loading instead of 47k ohms, there are many discussion in foreign audio forum, just Hong Kong audiophile seldom discuss with this topic. Loading the cartridge, no matter MM or MC with much higher loading would have no harm to the cartridge, it would just change the step up ratio, damping to the coil and how it sound. For my own Van Den Hul cartridge, it can be loaded at 500 to 47k ohms, it is fun to try different loading with it, it sound nice with 1k ohms in my system, but may sound better with 47k with other system........ Regarding the choice of loading resistor, Vishay metal film or Wirewound are the best choice, with my own experience and advice from the mentor in my audio journey, use the lowest power rating if it is possible...... the most common rating in the market are 1W and 0.5W, try get the 0.25W if possible, you will experience day and night difference, it is because of lower inductance with lower power rating resistor, but this is strictly based on my experiment for cartridge loading purpose, not for circuit application. |

| [#8] Phono stage loading at 100K to 300K #7 Yep! The Grado prefer 100k ohms to make it sound more vivid! The 0.125W is great for loading resistor purpose! I do have some 0.25W and 0.125W Dale metal film in my stash bought more than 30 years ago for using with my Belles DMC Preamp, it was fun to experience different value for MC loading by changing resistor....... but now I try using the Phono Pre with switch for loading in convenient way, removing screw of top panel to change resistor or changing DIP switch is too troublesome for such a lazy person like me........ |

| [#9] Phono stage loading at 100K to 300K THERE WAS ALWAYS PHONO Stage i lost those top screws...haha i always play around SUT with resistors... recently buy an old PhonoStage.20 with its MsU.20 power supply, it is one of those phono stage with rca loading plug.. it is a good platform for using SUT quite a decent little box.... haha |
