[#17] Onkyo 5009 贏左 Pioneer LX-90 I am also an Onkyo AV amp owner (not the latest model) I admit Onkyo top AV amp is quite generous on the power supply and the amplifier section. Yet it probably does not want to guarantee 4-ohm performances. Kindly note that 4 ohm nominal impedence implies that at some frequencies the input impedence can drop below 4 ohm. i.e. I believe there is still possibilities to activate the protection circuits. To push 4ohm without burning ur Onkyo amp, u need to apply setup in screen menu. But in bi-amp / bridge mode, 4 ohm is not supported.

Anyway, I tried to use 5009 to push a small Dyna 4 ohm bookselves. Yes the amp is not burnt, but the quality is far below expectation. Ghost power amp is highly recommended for those 4ohm users.

I think we should be fair to the AV amp manufacturers. Speakers with both low impedence (4ohm) + low input sensitivities(＜89db) could be demanding to AV amp. Just a rule of thumb that 3db drop in input sensitivity implies roughly double amplifier power to produce similar sound level.

I am using Vienna Accoustic Maestro Grand (Centre), and Waltz Grand (rear channels). These are 4ohm and 91db speakers that live happily with the Onkyo amp in a spacious listening room.
