Thanks for your comment, because I want to plan upgrade my XQ1 to XQ5, I'm afraid the bass is too much for my 8' x 10' listen area. ^-^

Hi raymondcch hing

I'm a user of XQ5 (Europe version)almost 2 years
Total agree with yr comment in XQ5
It's sound stage is deep,wide & so detail.
The hi frequency is great so I think it's good for AV also.
performance in string I like the most.
But I still not satisfly with it.
Could any brother tell me more about reference series performance???.

yea, just go to time sq to listen the ref series
and in what aspect u are not satisfied with XQ5?

i think Ref is a bit 'old sound' than XQ
thicker, slower......(comparatively)

Actually i like XQ3 a little bit more than XQ5

In my memory,XQ3 almost the same as XQ5 except the bass.

XQ3 tune the sound with stand and i found Xq3 is more boxless
But Xq5 wins in more aspect.... wider sound stage, more powerful.... To be frank, if u just want 2ch and old sound, surely should consider more about ref series. And for me, i tried to use cables to adjust the sound and esp monitor the bass though my stuff are suck and cheap, but the sound is still cool and i think the potential for this speaker is remarkable .

i am envy on your EU's XQ5...just kidding
And i know plenty of ppls are looking for EU XQ

i dont know what systems u are using and how they work with your KEF speaker.What Power cord to your amp and what type of amp u are using? All my players, amps are Marantz :) and i changed many cables to find my cup of tea.So i can just share my exp on how am i move the way forward with my XQs.

The spk cable i am satisfied at the present moment is tara labs Prism (reduced & tight bass and balanced) /Monster, whereas i have tried some other cables about (1~2K) like audioquest CV4, MIT, Zenneth audio, QED.......but trade them off very quickly

what i means 'reduced' is the bass seems to be less dominant and more recessive

And i have no idea as i am not familiar with tube amps. As far as u mentioned, u want punchy bass and also the 'old sound' , i think it is demanding for reaching an equilibrium. For my uncles, they are McIntosh lovers. And i have chances to listen to their gears. I am surprised by the sound from their expensive stuffs but except the bass. What i concluded from that is tube amps are not born to make punchy bass in the sound of rocks and pop.

my 2cents only and i am just still a layman in Lofi
