Since the design philosophy heavily favors 1394, If I use it as a SPD/IF only DAC, I wonder how it stacks up against the competition?

The main difference is the external finishing. Consumer version featuring Swiss made aluminium panel and feet while pro. ver. features sampling frequency indication.

Daniel Weiss once claimed that there are special sound treatment on consumer vers....

As Vash noted, the Minerva undergoes more QA treatment, which allows for more sound tuning and better sonic attributes. One could also say that sound is subjective....
I will visit the upcoming show, will buy a DAC2 from Kent, if suitably impressed.

What I can gather from various websites, specially computer audiophile, the Alpha DAC is better than Minerva, sans Firewire connection - same price.

I cannot stress enough that sound is subjective and location tuning is king. Still think DAC2 will be the best option ---- Till I hear this coming sat.

Alpha DAC and Minerva have different fans. Same as all different DACs out there. We had Alpha DAC team in Weiss CES room talked about our DACs too. Both parties are from professional audio world. We have customer who converted from Alpha DAC. I think vise verse happens too. But Alpha DAC is not computer related product, it needs a sound card to work with. They asked Weiss about the computer interface and we shared our thoughts.

What interested me is all DACs on the market can be treat as computer related playback with extra soundcard like Lynx. This is how marketing role comes in when certain product is put towards certain area.

Look forward to meet with you by then. However after yesterday setup and today demo. The partition room is very far from ideal for demo. The live talk & performances loud PA from the near stage has highly affected the playback quality. But at least you can talk with someone who knows the product.

About Minerva has more QA treatment, it is based on the L/R channel output inter channel balance. However any DAC2 sold from me were re-calibrated by myself and make sure they have less than 0.01dB inter channel balance. So that's not an issue. Minerva will not get better sonic attributes.

Today demo we have one more confirmed order, that's make the back ordered units go up to 25. That's also mean I don't have much stock on DAC2.

The best way to listen the DAC will be in my studio however the brand new ATC100ASL is tricky in setup.

與友人一席話及客觀分析…

撇開機內較聲方法不題，從外觀上 DAC2 用膠腳，換上一些音響用釘腳也有不同音效。Minerva 就在這方面配上了瑞士製鋁腳，也可說是較聲的一種呢。

起碼寒舍中的 DAC2 多四棧指示燈，又可以玩不同釘腳較聲， OK 啦。
