I have Arcam CD17 + A18 with KEF Q100 and a Rega RP1 TT. I Heard the R series too, I would say Arcam matches KEF speakers really well. I have demo Cambridge Audio's stuff, I do not recommend them. BTW, you may find this useful: Arcam stereo amps are made in the UK. I recommend you to demo the Rega Brio-R as well, it's a very good amp and should drive the R300 well. The Arcam sound is subtle (not everyone's cup of tea), quite different with some other brands, it's very enjoyable for relaxing & long listening sessions. (good for background music too, e.g. over the dinner) The A28 comes with a very good build-in MM phono stage (amp) if u have a TT, so as the Brio-R. U said u listen to classical music (depends what sort of classical u mean here), I'm not sure the British brands are the best choice for this genre. My system works really well on acoustic music, very well with strings (e.g. guitar) and brass (e.g. trumpet), I mostly listen to indie rock (=Brit rock or Britpop) and jazz. However, if u listen to a lot of symphony orchestras, big bands and complex muisc, please also consider other mades like the Italian or French. Hope this helps!

That's cool, hope u enjoy the Arcams. Actually I'm no HiFi expert, I only started my HiFi journey in 2011. My setup is about 14 months old, so maybe I can share some experience with u on the Arcams. On the cables, I think Chord cables work well with the Arcams. I use Chord interconnects and QED speaker cables. I found the CD17's sound very natural and detail, so u may want to avoid silver cables or those with silver plated. U mentioned u listen to vocals, so I guess u probably prefer the sound to be warm and smooth, so try to avoid silver when u are shopping for cables. There are other good brands too, look for some OFC pure copper. NO experience on bi-wire, so can't advice u on that. Others may not believe/agree to the run-in thing, but my experience is that it took me months for mine (I mean cd, amp + spk all 3) to be fully run-in. The Arcams has no stand-by, I now keep them on all the time, and with the display off when not in use. (I found this way, it's more ready to go. It sounds a bit lack of energy when they are stone cold - they need warm-up time!). Don't take my word for it, try it out yourself if u can hear the difference. My tip for u: leave them on all the time, this can 1) speed up the burn-in period AND 2) save you the pain warming up the electronics when u start playing music straight away. BTW, the sales at the KEF showroom told me that the sound can improve with the Arcam's display turned off when listening (less signal noise). I can't spot any difference, just something u can play with too. Have fun with your new purchases! Feel free to PM me if u prefer to further discuss directly.
