| [#2] Preamp of Weiss DAC2 and Medea Weiss DAC2/Minerva uses digital volume control in 24bit dithered digital domain 0.5dB/step in preamp section. Medea has no preamp enable. If you are talking about the analogue output stages. They are completely different. Weiss DAC2/Minerva uses the minimal approach and Medea uses complex approach. (for example you will never see such many transistors inside a DAC) |

We placed the INT202 inside the Medea to enable few new features. - Medea Firewire Connection - Digital Volume Remote Control - Absolute Phase switches When comparing the practical preamp usage between DAC2/Minerva and Medea, the Medea is better. DAC2/Minerva you have 4 fixed levels output to match with your power amp: +17 dBu (5.48Vrms) with a 0dBFS sinewave input +11 dBu (2.74Vrms) with a 0dBFS sinewave input +7.2 dBu (1.78Vrms) with a 0dBFS sinewave input +4.8 dBu (1.35Vrms) with a 0dBFS sinewave input For Medea Firewire, you can have High/Low switches and a pair of trim potentiometers to setup the output level. Output level "low" mode: variable from -infinity to +15dBu (-infinity to +9dBu asymmetrical) Output level "high" mode: variable from -infinity to +27dBu (-infinity to +21dBu asymmetrical) But obviously two are in very different market and level. |

| [#8] Preamp of Weiss DAC2 and Medea INT202 digital volume is maximum at 0dBFS (digital scale). The analogue output gain depends on the DAC you pair with. Max volume 0dBFS means the DAC has full output connects to power amp. For today digital source, that is more than enough. For example, if you use INT202 with Weiss own Medea, the analogue output can be maximum to +27dBU, this output is high enough to drive some loudspeakers without power amp. If you have a DAC which can calibrate the analogue output (for example DAC2, Medea, DAC202) you can find the sweet point where your digital volume is closer to max for ideal setting. |
