[#4] Cambridge Magic 6 or Pioneer N-50 (or Linn Majik) Thanks Edison Ching, But I just want a one-stop solution and easy to use with a good sound stage as I have already got a complicated Hi Fi system and AV system Thanks for your information Trotanoy Ching And I also know that this product has award 5 stars and product of the years 2012 in Whathifi! http://www.whathifi.com/review/streammagic-6 But I do concern on the sound quality among those stream players and Linn DS would be the best choice but of course the price is very high and only one input for ethenet to my NAS. Would Chings give advice to me, appreciated that |

[#6] Cambridge Magic 6 or Pioneer N-50 (or Linn Majik) ching, First of all, let me digest your requirement: You just said, "I just want a one-stop solution and easy to use with a good sound stage" There are three requirement: 1. one-stop solution 2. easy to use 3. with a good sound stage All these three: 1. Cambridge Magic 6 2. Pioneer N-50 3. Linn Majik Looks like the same thing, what makes them different is the "player". In other words, "how you control the playback?" So, in order to find out which one best suit you, you'd better know first how to control the playback for each of them (and the others, if you could name some others). This should be able to cater your requirement #2. Regarding your requirement #1 (one-stop solution), actually it is bond with requirement #3, because you not only need a "transport", you need something like a CD-player, that can read data source and transform into audio signal in the box. However, let me tell you one thing, unless you are not going to upgrade, otherwise, requirement #1 & #3 are actually not so important to you, because one day, you may just add a DAC to do D/A conversion job because this is quite important for improving (or changing) sound quality & characteristic. Last but not least, talking about requirement #3, you can't trust the so-called "award" that they gain, try with your own ear with all the gears to be compared in one place at once is the best way to find out with is the best. Like buying clothes, you can't just like the appearance and buy, you also need to wear it, see if it looks cool when it is being put on your body. Hope this help you. |

[#7] Cambridge Magic 6 or Pioneer N-50 (or Linn Majik) Thank you Beeos Ching, really appreciated your detail explanation. I am a new guy to play CAS and here is my previous setup to my intergrated amp: - Netbook via Footbar2000 for player - DAC: YBA 202 (just sold to another Ching) And now I have setup a NAS and ready to play my files via stream player. My concept is play the files as simple as it could (ie. as shorter path as it could) in order to minimize the sound disturbance by cable or other mechanism and this is the most benefit to play CAS as there is no vibration mechanism like CD transport. By the way, those stream players have nearly the same function to play files via Ethernet. Linn would be my choice but I'am not sure whether those $ play for the sound stage is worth to pay (you know, it's at least double or treble the price as CA & Pioneer) and they can all be control by my iPhone. thx |

[#9] Cambridge Magic 6 or Pioneer N-50 (or Linn Majik) avsky ching, You are welcome. It seems fewer people in forums talk (may be the experienced guys are very satisfy with their system and stay back to enjoy music), as a player, I just share my little experience, hope we all learn from each other and enrich our experience in playing. Well, now you tell me more about your existing setup, that's nice. It seems to me that you are going to the way of CAS but you don't want to deal with heavy setup work (or tweaking) on the software side. Actually, that's also my way of playing CAS. I wanna ignore the software setup part and focus on the traditional hi-fi tuning part more, that is, play different gears, different cables, positioning and room acoustic. Yes, software tweaking does matter! I just get too many things to tweak and want to leave this to someone who is more willing and more expert than me. So, the rule of thumb is "don't re-invent the wheel", in this connection, I always look for the cup-noodle solution to play CAS. One day, I browse R33 and see "steveha" ching's post on DAC2: http://www.review33.com/avforum/forum_message.php?topic=12121012073605 He has mentioned a little computer called "cubox", which is just a small computer with capable to playback 1080p video and loaded with Linux by default. To my surprise is not (only) the size, the price, but there is already some japanese audiophile guys who made a audio tuned version Linux that you can pick and use on-the-fly. So I follow Steve ching's information to order cubox, download the audio tuned Linux image. After some hard working in loading the image, setup of NAS share drive mounting, I finally can play music out of cubox. (for detail, please read that post, I don't repeat) Back to your case, the gears you listed out also need to setup the NAS connection (you need to tell them where to get the music files). So 性質上 they are the same, though for Cubox, you need little Linux knowledge. Also, it just a transport with USB output so you need to buy a DAC with USB input. I find this most suit my case because I can change DAC disregard the source now. Just find a DAC with USB input and it works just like a CD transport. |

[#10] Cambridge Magic 6 or Pioneer N-50 (or Linn Majik) only you can decide if the Linn is worth it to you. The linn has a lot going for it: 1) DLNA compliant ethernet 2) HDMI (assuming you mean Linn DSM for fully integrated solution and not Linn DS player). 3) Great iPad app 4) NAS support 5) Handbuilt in UK 6) 5yr warranty 7) Very high build quality I have Linn majik DSM and Linn Akurate DSM and love linn products. |

[#11] Cambridge Magic 6 or Pioneer N-50 (or Linn Majik) avsky ching, Looking at your set up, you have a NSA set up, is it Synology or Qnap, if it is, then you already had owned a stream player source act as a transport to USB DAC. |
