As you can see, the Haitink version mentioned by Shamus is also found in this EMI catalogue.  |

| [#5827] EMI old and new Hi AI, My A/B comparison of EMI's reissued CDs (like those in the "Great Recordings of the Century" series) informs me that in terms of sound quality they are not inferior to their "made in W.Germany" conterparts released in the late 1980s. I am afraid in a blind-test there is strong likelihood that I would prefer some the re-issues. But since you said you are a collector of old EMI CDs, sound elements may not be your paramount concern. I can only hope that you keep cool and don't allow secondhand CD dealers to smell your blood too often. | [#5837] EMI Personally I think, compared to Decca, which rarely goofed and made a smooth transition into the digital age, EMI had made MANY bad CDsin the past. Most of the "STUDIO" series that I have have pretty crappy sound. My own feeling is closer to trollope's. Most of the time I'd prefer the new issues. I regard the ENCORE series as very good sounding. |
