| [#7] CAS (電腦播歌) 同好會 Dear all, I am just a beginner in computer audio and I am using foobar. I love its sound quality but hate the steep learning curve. Recently, I tried to convert certain ape files (with cue sheets) into aiff format. Naturally, I used the conversion program that comes with foobar. At first, I thought the conversion should be pretty simple by clicking on the cue sheet only. However, the problem is that all the converted aiff files do not contain the meta data that are original embedded in the cue sheet (e.g. album name and artist). All I got is just the track name. All other information of the cue sheet is NOT transfer to the converted files. My questions are as follows:- 1. Am I missing anything in the conversion process? 2. It appears that I cannot mannually add or edit the metadata under Foobar. On the other hand, I can do so under iTune. 3. Is foobar not capable of displaying the metadata afterall. I copied Kent Poon's Jazz Prologue III disc (also in aiff format) to the computer but only the treck names are displayed. Many thanks in advance |

| [#9] CAS (電腦播歌) 同好會 Vash, Thanks for your prompt response. The reason I am converting ape files to aiff is that I might be using both Apple OSX and Microsoft Windows in due course. Currently, OSX does not support ape format. I need an uncompressed music format that works for both systems. In theory there are two candidates, namely wave and aiff. As wave files is not capable of attaching album art, my only choice of uncompressed format seems to be aiff. Aiff works pretty well under OSX as it supports album art and metadata editing. Now that I learn that aiff is not that "flexible" under the Windows envirnoment. This is really discouraging. Accordingly, there is no perfect solution for dual system. |

Some player have volume control which affect data integrety e.g. 有個 wav file，其實是不是還要經過甚麼 process 才傳去 DAC？ wav file can be viewed as pcm file with different header. 及 其他 compressed format的影響又如何呢？wav, AIFF are uncompressed file. Flac, Apple loossless are no loss compression. Otehr compressed format like MP3 is not bit perfect 請賜教！ |

Some player have volume control which affect data integrety 其實我咁問既原因，係因為呢 player 太煩。一係 user-friendly 但聲唔夠掂 (e.g..........)，一係呢聲勁掂但煩到唔想學，唔好話用（e.g. cplay, cmp, wavelab, sonar 8)......... 想睇吓可唔可以下中間搵個平衡位（我現純粹想試下個效果，識多Ｄ嘢，search 多Ｄ資料先，但短期內一定不會攪 htpc / media centre)。 請問師兄你自己用開乜嘢 player software 呢？謝謝！ |

I also use a remote to control it so I don't need a monitor to control playback (start/stop/next/prev/mute/etc). foobar2000 with FofR looks very good and user friendly. | [#20] CAS (電腦播歌) 同好會 PhantomGTR: 我以前都以為只要output driver(例如用ASIO)一樣, 電腦硬件(包括輸出數碼訊號o既soundcard)一樣, DAC一樣, 咁就用咩軟件播歌都會係一種聲, 點知後來發覺用cPlay同Wavelab就已經好唔同, 結論似乎係由file format到speaker發聲一整段路程中, 所有軟硬件因素都會產生影響~ ＞＞ 即是話，如果我係經 S/PDIF 出 DAC的話，用邊個 player software 出來的效果都 "一樣" 嗎？ |
