I am now using 275DE. Just use it for about 25 hours. The sound is amazing. Although this is an entry level amp, I am surprised it's quiet revealing and not that "Slow ..mellow sound"

However, the IEC was quiet close to the transformer that the choices of alternate power cables was quiet restricted. Now , I am using NBS Omega 3 only..... still, I suspect it was not as 正常as the original jerdier cable....

myers ching, I plan to upgrade later with the control B...but I don't have turntable, so, will that be a waste or should I simply change to their 300B??

I owned its 6550 power amp before, the previous generation of yours. It doesn't sound slow and harsh as many commented that 6550 or KT88 as coarse sounding. It could even drive some diffcult loading speaker, I have once connected it with an ATC and Dynaaudio bookshelf speaker but the sound is not very exciting.

Changing to a Control B should make a significant sound improvement despite you don't use the phono stage (maybe in the future). The plug is near to the transformer not suitable for those cables with Hubell or Furukawa plugs. Changing to a 300B would lower its power particularly U are now using KT88. The 300B is however more powerful than other companies' 300B amps.

Glad that U R also a JCV user, btw here is a retailer of JCV in Taiwan suggested that the EF184 is critical to the sound quality of the JCV 300B.

Control B will be a good way up and it can stay with you along your upgrade path for quite sometime, if you are willing to stick with it. I personally living with the Control B for about 2 years happily.

I'm a SET freak, so your mentioned 300B was one of my target before. However, I'd remind you that before you consider a SET amp, you must ensure the output power (8W x 2) can cope with your listening environment (room size) as well as the efficiency of your speakers.

For me, just for sharing, my JCV 2A3 (3W x 2) fits well in my 350ft2 living room along with my 94dB speakers. I live with this set up for around one and a half year. Recently, I experienced that larger output would benefit my system sonically for all kinds of music playback in my listening room, if you choose the right one. For sure JCV is one of the best SET amp, IMHO.

woo......thx for all Ching's sharing their precious experiences.
Actually, I am using spendor SA1 which I believe will not be easy to tamed. However, 270Ed did his job well and I really enjoy it - even at the first 20hr of the break-in time.

I later learnt that jc Verdier is/was famous for it's 300B - I meant at the early time when first established. So, logically you can't get wrong with my trying of their famous 300B.

But if I try the 300B, I need to change the speaker as well. . ...chings have experience with this matching ? Or something to say about this??

I got my Control B and 300B combo last year and in my opinion they sound obviously better than the other more expensive tube amps that I have owned before. It is a surprise to me.
