[#1] Add DAC or change CDP Hi C-hing, I am now using the set with following config.: CD: Yamaha CDS-2000 Pre-amp: Mcintosh C2200 Power-amp: Mcintosh MC252 Speaker: Focus Audio 788 So far, it is quite good (as I still believe I have not boil up all the gears - like the CDP, XLR cables and power cables), but my friend bring his new toy Marantz SA-11S2 to my home and test, I found the CD part have better performance at vocal and low frequencies, violin perform more silky, but when playing SACD, 11S2 wins a lot. I know it is normal as the price is at least double from SA-11S2 to CDS2000. I have some plans to upgrade the CD as the CD part is the weakest part of my system, but just do not have any idea, whether add a DAC to upgrade or just change the CD. Add DAC can also serve CAS later. If my additional budget is about $15K for the DAC, any suggestions? Of course if I change the CDP, I will sell the CDS2000, so I am expecting to buy a CDP at about $20,000.00, see any c-hing have suggestions. Thanks.		ttl 正式會員 183.xxx.xxx.80	2010-10-13 16:51

Maybe you can consider CDP with digital input so that you still can use it as DAC late when you play CAS. There are some brand carrying CDP with separate DAC function such as Audiolab, Musical Fidelity and Acoustic Arts. I think more of this kind of product will be available in market latter.

Thanks c-hing's suggestions, actually I also prefer to change the CDP as it is more simple and no need to worry about the cables problem. However, really have no idea bout the CDP for about $20,000 budget, if using $20,000.00 budget, any second hand products can be considered?

兩萬元內無一部 DAC 靚得過 SA11S1 或 S2 唱 CD / SACD - 行平衡輸出。還有 "兩萬元DAC" 尚未包括 CD 轉盤、數碼線、電源線、調聲附件....等。

除非玩要 CAS，否則為聽 CD 加 DAC 成效/回報極低。

I think adding DAC is a good upgrade path. Winning SA11S1 or S2 is definitely possible (of course, you need to choose DAC wisely.

I agree with you CAS is a key reason why people give up CD/SACD. That is a different story. It is more and more difficult to commit a high budget on CD/SACD player.
