The "Boom" sound is likely caused by standing waves that depends on the dimension of the room

You may use CDs with test tones at multiple frequencies (30,40, 50Hz .... up to 100 Hz). The frequency that causes the standing waves will sound loud.

You many reduce the booming effect by re-positioning the speakers and putting bass traps (or thick carpet rolls) at the corners.

The ability of the amplifier to fully control the bass energies of the speakers is another factor to consider (though, may be to a lesser degree).

Inserting an equalizer may help to manually suppress the booming frequencies, but it may cause other distortions.

My suggestion is based on the assumption that booming is caused by standing waves - i.e. the environment. It is not uncommon for the relatively medium to small sized listening rooms in HK

To verify this, you can use a test CD as explained before. You may also try to place the setup in a different room to observe the difference? For instance, is there similar problem in the demo room?

Floor Carpets can absorb mid frequencies , and may not help much with booming Bass. Placing a Roll of thick carpet at the corners may ease the problem. The official solution is something like the ASC Tube Trap or DAAD4 that you can search for more information from the web.

Also note that some CDs are produced with very rich bass responses to "simulate" an unique atmosphere, and these CDs could lead to more booming.
