[#1] Car Battery Problem On CNY eve, my car cannot power on. Then, I thought the original battery is dead. Then, I switch a new one in a garage. Unfortunately, the car cannot power on again ONLY after 2 days. Did anyone had such experience before and anything wrong you see? Thanks for any idea. |

[#3] Car Battery Problem Probably 1) the dynamo (alternator) can't generate enough juice to re-charge your battery 2) something (electrical devices) leaks. 最後修改時間: 2011-02-05 23:08:04 |

[#4] Car Battery Problem Thanks. 1) Dynamo -- I suspect this before, but I had replaced a new battery and it should at least ok for a few days if the battery cannot be recharged. The only device used up power would be the alarm system I guess. 2) Leakage seems more possible, but I'm not sure at all as I do not know how to check where is the leak. I can go to garage after Sunday at least, but I'm not sure the problem can be easily detected by normal garage. Or, I have to go Service Center?? |

[#5] Car Battery Problem check recharge by a voltage meter , if there is 13.8 to 14.4 volt (start engine ) , your dynamo is work , also check the battery with no starting , if under 12 volt just need charging .. |

[#7] Car Battery Problem I asked a friend to borrow me a life-kit which have a engine start-up function, and its works fine today. Car can start again. I run-in over 3000rpm for some minutes and then power the engine off. Engine can be restarted again for couple times. So.....seems the battery can be recharged and dynamo works. I still have no clue why the battery drained so fast. Need to go for some garage with computer tester to see whats wrong inside. Will report later. |

[#8] Car Battery Problem It looks like the battery is draining faster than normal. A typical cause is a possible short circuit somewhere which is keeping a small current flow to unexpected place. (for example, shorting to car body). It is not that easy to trace and require some experience people and time to locate the source. |

[#9] Car Battery Problem Concur with fkclo hing. The problem is that, most of the time, when there is a short circuit to car body, probably one of the fuses will be blown. If your car is relative new and never been involved in any collision (even a minor one), a shorting to the car body is not really a high probable. If there ain't any blown fuse and your car installed any third parties electronic devices (alarm/radio/HID light etc), I will start from there first. |

[#10] Car Battery Problem I think fkclo C-hing is right. Before garage open again, I tried to power on this morning. It can start once. I didn't use the car today and then I tried again tonight (12 hours after), the car CANNOT start again. Now, I found something..... the break light ON continuously even though the engine cannot start. I can see the break light ON i.e. I am not pressing on break. This is one. Then, I use the life kit to help restarting the engine. Its ON again, but headlight keep always ON no matter how I switch the lighting button next to the wheel. Also, the drive screen show error message on lighting. I power off and power on with head lights working fine. NOW, I highly guess its belong to lighting circuit issue. Regarding 我是一個人 C-Hing, my car is not new. Its a 2008 Audi A4 1.8T. No collision or any modification made or even 3rd party installation. At the beginning, I suspect its becos of my ipod charger, but problem keep the same even I took everything out. Anyway, I think I cannot fix it myself. I need an experienced garage with reasonable equipment to cure the problem. I have to wait until CNY finish. Will report to all generous C-Hing what the issue exactly and help whoever may experience that in future. |

[#11] Car Battery Problem I think this is good progress - you can narrow down where to look at ! Best of luck and let us know about the fix. BTW, the 2008 Audi A4 is a pretty reliable car in my opinion. Sorry about the hiccups. |

[#12] Car Battery Problem Hi, just to report the status. I go another garage today who has computer to check whether the car has electricity leakage or not. The findings is NO -- the voltage is less than 0.1V. The master told me leakage only occur if over 0.7V. He also inspected the newly installed battery and suspect that the new battery is the source of problem as it is smaller than the original one. I then follow his suggestion to change a bigger size battery, and need to wait couple more days for no drive and see. However, I still do not 100% sure the problem solved as the original battery should not be replaced then as it drained faster than expected and without pre-indication before it die. Now, money spent and what I can do is wait before conclusion can be drawn. The final and last alternative is to go Audi service center if the 3rd battery still cannot cure the problem. God bless the car and me!!!! By the way, I agree that Audi A4 1.8T is a good car. I owe a BMW FR car before which is famous for handling. When I got this A4, I knew it is FF car and assume handling should not be as good as BMW. But, its wrong. Handling is quite comparable. Engine is quiet but power is good. Gas consumption is amazing compare to 325i. I can say it is not a wrong switch. Just a hip-up right in CNY is very inconvenience. Without this, its nice car. Quiet recommend to make a trial for all c-hings. |

[#13] Car Battery Problem I have my reservations too. The size (AHr) of battery should not be able to explain your problems with the lighting circuit ?! Besides, one will not need a big battery to do the starting for a medium size car like the 1.8T. What is the AHr of the original battery before this replacement ? Normally any charged battery with 40AH or above should do the job. And I would suggest avoid Audi Service Centre run by DCH, unless you have no other choices. Audi is a good brand by the dealer service is both expensive and disappointing, and it will hold your car for days. 最後修改時間: 2011-02-10 23:13:42 |

[#14] Car Battery Problem Yes, I have the same view too. The "smaller" battery is 40Ah, and I changed a 80Ah right now. However, other than replace another new battery, I have no other options. I left my car not being driven for 2-3 days and see. Audi service center is the last option, but I just think of Motor Tech which is also subsidary of DCH. May be they have more & right equipment to check. Lets see whats coming in next 2 days. Thanks. |

[#15] Car Battery Problem It is way too small to use a 40AH battery on a 1.8L new car. My very very old Mazda 323 1.3L using 55AH. By the way, the incorrectly turned on lamp may be a fault in micro circuit, or the security system which is, in general, by pass the fuse box and connect to car battery directly. |

[#16] Car Battery Problem ctlee C-hing, your message remind me one thing. When the car out of power, I found once that the break light all on. Then, when I use the life kit to switch the engine on, all lights went up. But, all back to normal after ON and Off the engine. Not sure something related. Now, I am driving the car and its seems normal again. Really strange!!! |

[#17] Car Battery Problem If you have a non-original sound system, also check anything that is by pass the fuse box. Some people may install a huge capacity which look like a big cola bottle. That capacity may leak even it is completely new, and some may even have a digital voltmeter on top and that use battery power too. |

[#18] Car Battery Problem Had a 06 A3 3.2 with electrical problems last year. Low voltage warning whilst car was running, battery would sometimes get drained so bad that car would not restart. Garage A thought it was alternator so changed. No improvement. Garage B thought it was battery so changed. Same story. Finally went back to DCH Kowloon Bay. Their diagnosis, faulty fuse box! I suspect that had I gone to DCH first I might have saved the cost of the alternator and battery. So lesson learnt, for electrical problems go back to DCH. |
