I am interested in the Diesel version as the fuel consumption is much lower than petrol version.

After driving the old model of the Cayenne S for 4 years, 80 litres tank can only do 400Km, compared to the new Cayenne D, it can do twice the distance for the same 80 litres.

Anyone with first hand experience?

I did a test drive of the new Cayenne D, it is much lighter and responsive too. The GPS, screen and steering control are much better refined and easy to navigate than the old model.

Even it is a diesel engine, I don't find it too noise and the stop and go feature is a bit strange at the beginning but it is nice to have knowing it is burning less fuel.

Hi Simcity,

Agreed but for the road condition / limitation in Hong Kong, with a Cayenne S or Turbo, the extra weight is not a problem.

Of course, it still make the car a bit more GREEN friendly ..... :-)

The current cayenne is just too.....heavy! But the new generation is completely transformed, according to Autocar UK's first driving impression. It's also 200KG lighter!!!

Go for Cayenne S or turbo if you can and the driving experience is 80%+ the same as a Porsche Carrera.

I'm driving a Cayenne 3.2 V6 too and I've to admit that it isn't a very fast car. Unless "nice looking" is absolutely a must, try switching to a smaller rim with narrower tires (mine is fitted with 18" rim and 255/55/18 tires) and it will give you a better balance among speed, handling and fuel consumption. Try making use of the tiptronic switches effectively and you can always keep the engine on the ideal range for over-taking. Don't forget to put your gear lever to the left hand side for engaging the full manual mode and it will give you full control on gear changing (computer intervention is disabled). In normal condition Cayenne is started in 2nd gear (1st gear is typically used for off-road) but you can down shift it to 1st gear via the tiptronic switches for a quicker start. Though it isn't a very fast car, but driving it is a real fun as you can really feel its rock solid chassis and world class handling that can hardly been offered by other ordinary SUV vehicles. Obviously I definitely will suggest people to go for V8 or turbo if budget is not an issue.

the cayenne is not a real porsche, its just an suv with a porsche badge to fill up the market's need. the cayenne is still a huge success because people get the illusion that it is fast and will be more superior in class if compared against other suvs, technically if u want a real suv get a range rover.

This is a "van". By law, the metal mesh has to be there to separate the loading zone from the passenger cabin for safety reason. But the vehicle is only required to be inspected once a year and most importantly, the mesh is removable. So you can actually xxxxxxx........you know what I mean, mate :)

And brother schumy, you asked about the comparison with Porsche GT3-RS. Actually, it would be very difficult to compare them side by side. The price of the Porsche is around $2.2 million HKD including tax, so it's 4 times the price of a diesel Disco 4. And this Porsche is never meant to be an everyday car. It's too uncomfortable, too fast, too noisy, too raw and too high profile. But in the right time, right road and right mood, this is truly a "SuperCar" by any standard, and it's full potential can only be unleashed in a race track.

The Disco 4 is basically a 4x4 SUV, but in this 4th generation, everything has been transformed into a luxury feel vehicle. It's hugely desirable even on a normal road or a busy street. And the real surprise is the "PRICE"!!! It really worth a million dollar, that's it!

i went to check it out in the showroom today. $580k is after a $40k low emission subsidy and a low 17% FRT on LGV over 1.9t. thx for the info and i m surprised no other manufacturer takes advantage of this approach.

how does it compared to ur friend's Porsche GT3-RS?

Brother taktakb, you've got the right answer too!! Yes, the Land Rover Discovery 4 is the car I am talking about. On first sight, it might not be the ideal "luxury Vehicle" HK drivers get accustomed to but in fact it is.

At $580k, it's only taxed for $50k under commercial vehicle listing. Otherwise, it would be selling at $900k!!! But let me tell you, the Disco 4 really deserves a million dollar price tag once you sit in and drive it around town. It's hugely impressive and for me, it's even more desirable to drive than a Mercedes S500L sedan.

my guess is one of those approved environmentally friendly cars which qualifies for a FRT reduction, but since the cap of reduction is just $50k, if the actual tax levied is less than $50k after the reduction, that means original tax is just $100k and the car value is about the same. no idea which "luxury vehicle" can be that affordable. it would be great if you could enlighten the average guys like me, thanks.

Talking about excessive sales tax locally, there is actually a big open secret out there that no one has ever talked about, even among those who think they know a lot about "cars"........

Right now, at this present moment, there is actually one brand new luxury vehicle on sale in the HK market in which the government is only taxing for less than $50,000 HKD!!!!!

Is it too good to be true? I'll leave this to the really smart guy to figure out the answer :)
