[#1] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera Can anybody share some thoughts about 2 cars regarding reliability, maintenance cost, build/quality and/or anything else you can share. I don't drive and know nothing about cars, my wife does and thinking about getting a new one. Porsche Panamera (the one with smaller engine/power) Mercedes GL class SUV thanks a lot. |

[#2] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera These are entirely different stuff. The Panamera is a more driver's car, 4 seats, sport car light driving. The GL is a big SUV for at least 5 guys plus big space for baggage. Driving position is high, centre of gravity is high, but may be more 'safe' during a crash if hited by a saloon. The heavy weight gives slow acceleration. |

[#3] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera I know the GL is big car, we can use 7 seats that's why it's under consideration. Performance / acceleration is not important for us, my wife knows what kind of handling she prefers and she likes the response from the Panamera, once she goes test drive the GL she'll know right away if it's a yes or no go. She didn't like Audi's Q7 and hated the bigger Range Rover (don't know what model). BTW we have a Lexus GL300 now. What we'd like to know more is really the build / quality and maintenance cost. I know the GL has a big engine and will cost an arm to feed it. |

[#4] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera I was happy with the dealer's and outside maintenance for all the M Benz I got before, from 2000cc to 5500cc models. Some C Hing here said the Porsche's dealer in HK is not that good for service. Please read those posts before. |

[#5] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera Thanks Paulpoon, I think I'm just going to let my wife decide, afterall she's the one driving. |

[#6] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera You are welcome. Indeed I am also considering the Panamera or the new M Benz S Class, the later was just launched on 16/5/13. |

[#7] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera I drive a 08 GL. Except during the first year when it had some weird firmware issue, my GL has been rock solid and trouble-free. Acceleration and responsiveness is very decent for such a big suv; the higher centre of gravity means you prefer not to push it in corners though. |

[#8] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera paulpoon I now understand why you said the Panemera is a "driver's" car, we tested it yesterday (I was in the backseat) and it was only so-so comfortable, no better than our Lexus but my wife liked driving it. Being a four seater is a problem for us, if it were a normal 5 seater we would have taken the plunge. Also tested the Cayenne (sp?), nothing special to me, cheaper than the panemera but smallish interior. Thanks falcongate, we have not had a chance to look at the Mercedes yet, according to their website the only GL class model is a GL500, big engine, really too big. Not only is the car more expensive, the large displacement means higher registration fee, killer gas bill ... 一闊三大 and bigger carbon footprint for something I don't really need. |

[#9] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera GL is such a big and heavy car. 5000cc engine is the starting requirement for normal performance. 3500cc is too weak. |

[#10] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera While it's called GL500, the engine is a 4.6 bi-turbo V8, like my old GL's engine with turbo. And absolutely, it drinks gas like crazy unless you are extremely cautious. While I like this trusty old GL, I would not have bought it if I had been the person making the call. |

[#12] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera If GL is your choice, the other option should better be a S-500 plus a driver.... |

[#14] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera GL500? Honestly, standard spec is just for looks and absolutely with NO offroad capability... unless you add the on/offroad package You want a real offrroader that is good for the buck and doesn't just have the looks? Get an Lancru200/LX470 or something like that No comment on the Pane V6, but it's not good choice either... just a hunch |

[#15] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera We have decided to go for the Panamera, and to answer one member's comment, yes, we are buying for the look, maybe a little bit about handling, but mainly for the look :) It's the wife's choice, Porsche or taxi makes no difference to me really. The dealer said the 2014 version is getting a facelift, I am wondering if anyone can share some thoughts about whether it's worth waiting for a few months for the newer model. Does it mean the 2013 model will depreciate faster because it's approaching the end of it's release cycle ? Thanks. |

[#16] Mercedes GL vs Porsche Panamera I tested driving Panamera from my relative. It is full of driving fun that can never get from his previous S500. Even you go to Porsche dealer, most likely they cannot deliver a new car to you shortly. Pay deposit now and you will get the new model Panamera early next year. PS. Last time, my relative waited 3 months after choosing options and paid. |
