| [#2] Hyundai Santa Fe NHTSA has opened an investigation into an estimated 50,000 2013 Hyundai Santa Fes after two complaints alleging front axle shaft failure. Federal safety regulators said both complaints allege the failures occurred with less than 5,000 miles on the odometer. NHTSA also said its review of Early Warning data submitted by Hyundai identified additional field report data related to the alleged defect. WASHINGTON — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into an estimated 50,000 2013 Hyundai Santa Fes after two complaints alleging front axle shaft failure. "NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation has received two complaints alleging failures of the right-front axle shaft resulting in loss of motive power incidents in 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles," said NHTSA in its summary of the probe. "Both complaints allege the failures occurred with less than 5,000 miles on the odometer. ODI's review of Early Warning data submitted by Hyundai identified additional field report data related to the alleged defect." Details on the field report data were not provided by NHTSA. There have been no crashes, injuries or fatalities linked to the probe, according to NHTSA. "This evaluation was just recently opened on July 5, 2013," wrote Jim Trainor, a Hyundai Motor America spokesman, in response to an Edmunds query. "Hyundai will fully cooperate with NHTSA during the course of the evaluation." NHTSA has opened a preliminary evaluation into the matter. Such an action sometimes leads to a vehicle recall. |
