| [#2] 2012 Audi A3 @ GENEVA 2012 Actually there is a lot to pick from the A4. The last A3 has a long product life so this all new A3 has to last - this is important as it is all about costs. I see new position of A3 towards the premium compact segment - staying away for the likes of VW Golf. If you look at the "gadgets" there are things that weren't even available in the A6 couple of years ago. Most of Audi's high end high-tech drive assist technologies are made available to this new generation. And the A3's very low (by European Standard) curb weight will definitely improve the car's carbon foot print and responsiveness. The use of aggressive light weight (but competitive) technology will give the new A3 the right DNA to be economical, or sportier, depending of the driver's mood. The initial launch seems rushed, probably timed for the Geneva motor show. Only the 3 door 2WD version with 3 entry level engine choices are announced. But I am expecting S3 of 300HP, RS3 of 400HP class to follow in a year or 2. But the 1.8TFSI engine is now 180HP which is tuned more aggressive than that offered for the face-lifted A4. Wondering how the 4 door "sport back" and the sedan will look like compared with the concept cars. Last, this A3 has better proportions than the outgoing model, also roomier. |
