[#32] Leica Club M6 Pang, Your M35 with goggle, if not the summilux then must be the famous 8 elements summicron, Japanese are dead for this one ! [#33] Leica Club SWC hing, My one is the latest summilux M, new type design with computer aid. Not the collectable two asap elements one. May be it is too late to say it, the early 35 lux does carry traditonal Leica wide angle signature that still beloved by some fans, yes Japanese. The central is very eye pleasing even the the outer edge is kind of soft as wide open, very magazine picture feel when you do enlargement, B/W film is excellent, does has it own taste. I didn't own the lens before just read someone's photos and texts and bxll Shxting here. If you perfer the picture with the entire flat sharpness at wide open, the latest 35 cron ASPH is the best even compare with the lux taking at same f2 !! Erwin Puts wrote a detailed paper to discussed about all Leica lens range "http://www.leica-camera.com/imperia/md/content/pdf/msystem/49.pdf" Don't sleep, do study it, very helpful, even it is an offical infomation. |

[#35] Leica Club and.t hing, Good morning. Cannot access the link recommended. Please advise once more. You mentioned that your Summilux is the latest version, do you mean the ASPH or the aspherical version produced between 1989-1994. Those i had were of 1961 design. They had a softar effect when fully opened. Stopping down to f.2 improved a lot, but couldn't match the Summicron performance of the same production period. IMHO the Summilux M series lenes were inferior to the Summicron Ms until they made the f1.4/75mm in 1980 and redesigned the f1.4/35mm by applying aspherical lens elements. I prefer F.2 series for M, but F1.4 series for R. My personal taste only. |

[#36] Leica Club SWC, Don't know why the link I paste but cant't get thru ! Use the old fashion way: Kick in > Leica Carmera AG> "choice English"> M system> Lenses> Product information> lower right corner does show a list> Book:M-Lense then down load it, very useful !! If the one you sole is the M4 version, very higher chance a chrome finish German made. If in NM condition, it means no goggle attached, you must make money on it, right? General believe that summicron is superior then summilux. Noctilux is even worst according to your standard. The old version 50 F 1.2 is no better than the new 50 F 1, but you know what F1.2 the price is still high. So price is not reflecting the performance in the Leica world. For good value for money, a real photo shooter would consider the summicron, and should be the new deisgn ones, to avoid paying high for so called "collectable and rare to find" items. Erwin did the comparison with Super-angulon, elmarit and elmarit ASPH, see the pages the result may not agreed by the old Leica fans, are you ...........! My ASPH version is not the two aspherical elements as you menetioned, that also become the collectable items, guess they are less than 1000 units producted. I bought around yr 2000. A good lens but heavy. 50 F2 cron is more convenient for travel. My personal experience, R is no way to play better game as M, when every one say that R 50/1.4 should be the best standard lens avaiable on earth (< not my opinion ? I guess contax 50/1.7 cheap and outstanding, damn japanese can made should dame good lens), then M is launched a 50/F1.4 ASPH ??? But no chance to own one, I am poor !! |

[#37] Leica Club >So price is not reflecting the performance in the Leica world. For good value for money, a real photo shooter would consider the summicron, and should be the new deisgn ones, to avoid paying high for so called "collectable and rare to find" items< Can't agree more. "collectable and rare to find" is only the term used by 2nd hand traders to push up the price for the stocks they have on hand. It is a matter of 心4好, if someone really likes to own or acquire a rare item, he deserves to pay a premium. Although my M & R lenses were bought mostly in the late 1980's, I am a beliver of newer designs must be superior in performance to older ones, save for the construction and bulit quality. The latest version of Leica lens I bought is the f1.4/35mm ASPH that came together with the set "A Piece of Leica" on sale in 1996. I do have the S-Angulon f3.4/21mm which is purely a collector's item. Performancewise, it is inferior to the Elmarit, not to mention the Elmarit ASPH. For me the best standard lens i have encountered is the Canon FD f1.2 Aspherical. It was a far more advanced design than other makes of its age, and the performance at f1.2 was amazing. High contract, good color rendition and sharpness. The Summilux M is way behind. Its a pity that Canon stopped making this lenses but introduced a EF f1/50mm for the EOS which is also not in the same league. This may be the occasion that we can say older lenes are better than the newer designs. |

[#42] Leica Club M6 Pang own two M6s and I guess SWC does own a SWC perhaps with a M = SWC/M In response to SWC , I did praise the FD 50 f1.2 SSC (hand ground apherical glass too)in another thread "傳統手動單鏡反光相機 " This lens is a piece of art, no luck to own one since I was not a Canon user until 10D => a workhorse for job use. This 50 1.2 was only touched by my hand at Chen Hung, very solid feel, and good design for the concealed bayonet ring. I almost become a new FD user ,but finially went for a used F2 80xxxxxxx with SB photomic top because of the lens performance at that time. Niokn gears did gave me alot of good momeries. My first Leica was a M3 DS with 50 F/2 dual ring, a good entry level combo with bargain price, both in good return with the very nice and sharp (in style, not the same sharpness as Jap. lens) pictures. Then I moved to M6 TTL and M4. Both M3 and M4 are also "piece of art". If someone said "Oh I want to be a Leica user some day if I have the $$$$$....! If that guy don't mind to buy a user condition M3 + the 50 2 summicron, it is a best way to get started.......no need to see the urgly face of Mr XXXX at Man Shing, where I lost a lot of money......!!! |

[#44] Leica Club Agree with you again for "Both M3 and M4 are also "piece of art". I have used from M2-M6 and still own some M3-M6s. Apart from those military models, in terms of built quality, my order of preference would be M3, M2, M4(German made models only), M5 then M6. But for design and easy of use, M6 is still the best. M3+ f2/50mm is really a good start to join the Leica family. The viewfinder (x.9) of M3 could be inconvenient for those ferquent user of 28-35mm lenses, but may be a welcome for those telephoto lovers. When you own a Leica (M model especially), you will treat it as an art work of precise craftmanship. Any electronics built into it will contaminate the spirit of the initial design. You want to own a Leica not because it has the best series of lenses on earth (actually it doesn't), but just for it is a legend in photographic industry. This is similar to Patek Philippe which is also a lengend representing the highest craftmanship and design complication in horology. Everyone knows a PP of any value will be no more accurate in time keeping than a 300 hundred dollar Seiko quartz. Since I have not done any film photography for the last two years, all my Leica gears are for collection only (until one day a cheaper digital body is marketed to accommodate Leica lenses). I use digital camera for its easy of processing print output. I wonder if it is suitable for me to fill in the user list in such status. But i should be delighted to post sharing of my limited exdperience in Leica if other club members feel interested. |

[#46] Leica Club stanfield hing, I remember my friend had told me, fixed focus Leica lens is superior than zoon lens. If you really "heat" on Leica, its better to collect their lens. And I remember if you collect them all needs around HK$200k. And then no problem at 135mm film camera. More advance 120 film, neverend................. |
