| [#1370] 港元定期, rate 邊間高? re 1369, other than yourself, very few, if any, people here know or understand the difference between aggregate balance and official reserves. ( You can search a few post from about 2 years ago where the aggregate balance dropped from HKD 457 bio down to HKD 44 bio and people here were cheering for HKD unpeg ie totally confused the two concepts ) having such a huge official reserves is not a privilege. it opens the door for 'mis' management, intentional or not. HK has such a huge official reserves only because of the need to maintain the peg. without a prudent and trust worthy agent to run the reserves, the system ( the peg and the reserves ) has a higher risk of ending in tears. ' 個個都想低息救經濟。個個操控 ' and so the FED manipulates the Fed funds rate and HKMA manipulates the aggregate balance. There are signs and gossips that the 'inflows' on May 2 to May 5 was artificial, aiming to push down the overnight HKD rates so as to help New World re finance.
