Similarly, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have been successfully reprogrammed into induced endothelial cells (iECs) without the need for viral vectors, offering a novel approach for vasculogenic therapies . In orthopedic applications, biocompatible nanoparticles have been optimized to enhance chondrogenic differentiation in human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs), providing new strategies for treating intervertebral disc degeneration . For neurodegenerative diseases, iPSC-derived corpus cerebrospinal fluid (CNSC-SE) has shown efficacy in promoting neurogenesis and dendritic morphogenesis in transgenic Alzheimer’s disease (AD) mouse models , while neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) have been found to enhance cognitive performance and delay AD onset in rats and mice . In Parkinson’s disease, adipose-derived MSCs (ADMSCs) improved neuronal density expressing tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) protein in rat models , and bone marrow-derived MSCs (BM-MSCs) secretome demonstrated neuroprotective effects by inhibiting dopaminergic neuronal death in a 6-hydroxydopamine-induced mouse model . Cardiovascular applications have also seen progress. iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (iPSC-CMs) have been shown to safely improve cardiac function in animal models of myocardial infarction , and human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) reduced ventricular remodeling, fibrosis, and enhanced angiogenesis in rat models . In knee osteoarthritis, autologous ADMSCs therapy was found to be safe and effective, with potential to halt disease progression . Stem cell therapies are also being explored for hematological disorders, where allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) has shown significant clinical benefits , and HLA haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) combined with allogeneic MSCs proved safe and effective for treating severe aplastic anemia in children and adolescents . For diabetes, intravenous infusion of umbilical cord MSCs (UC-MSCs) improved the time to onset of type II diabetes in a 48-week clinical trial . In oncology, MSC-derived exosomes exhibit anticancer effects against prostate cancer cell lines , and MSC-based liposomal formulations have shown promise in treating oral squamous cell carcinoma in mice . For autoimmune diseases, combining MSCs with Lactobacillus strains alleviated lupus-like symptoms in mice , and MSCs labeled with gas vesicles demonstrated therapeutic potential in rheumatoid arthritis models . Additional applications include the use of hUCMSCs as adjuvant therapy for severe COVID-19, showing initial success and relative safety in human trials , and MSCs being effective in treating graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in both adults and children . In ophthalmology, ASCs derived from healthy donors have been used to treat dry eye conditions with anti-inflammatory properties , and MSCs have shown potential in treating vitiligo by modulating the AKT/PI3K/PTEN pathway in melanocytes . These findings collectively underscore the broad therapeutic potential of stem cells across multiple disease domains, supported by both preclinical and early clinical evidence.
