First of all, to anyone interested on Accuphase product, you have go to DCH in Diamond Hill Hollwood Plaza. The price they offer is even lower than shops in Mongkok, although their environment is not good for serious audition.

First talk about cosmetic wise, to be franked, I hate golden finished panel. It looks too ordinary and old fashion, like mass market Japanese equipment. There is no much difference between it and a $3k cheap AV amp by causal watch. I think it is one reason why Accuphase is not so popular among youngsters here. US equipment looks smarter and cool...

Regarding the performance. Before the amp is fully run-in, it gave me a wrong impression that is it is bright, emphasize on high to make you think you can hear more detail and violin overtone. Mid is good but not outstanding. The major problem is there is no real bass at all. Trust or not, I have impulse to resell it after three days usage! May be I should get a Luxman 509, I think it will warmer....

But....

Once it is fully run-in after a week of usage, its strength start to show up. Not bright nor warm anymore and sounds very neutral. High is less aggressive and yet detailed and airy. I can hear more subtle detail and violin overtone that cannot hear before.
Vocal reproduction is simply spectacular, sometimes is quite “horrible” that someone is suddenly singing in front of you. Piano sounds liquid.
Bass wise, it is not as outstanding as other areas, a little bit less punchy for my taste. It is quite extended though. HarmonicTech power cord (JPS Power AC as well) help a lot here. I think that kind of characteristic is better for classical because cello sound is fuller and extended.

Soundstage belongs to the same class of my previous tube amp, and more stable and powerful.

Two things should note:
1. no tips or spikes, it will sound bright
2. will hum if grounded and connect to other equipment with ground. Either un-ground or don't connect to other equipment (esp.AV). I was told that it is safe to un-ground it.

I think it is really a good intergrated amp, I won’t say it is perfect. But for its price, I can't think a better one. Just its look requires sometime to get use.....

4 stars because I think there should be something better, just I didn't hear yet.
