[#1] The Lotus 林亨柱
This is the second林亨柱CD I bought. Thought that his style is on pop/classical. In Korea, his positioning is called ‘Popera’. This time not too much English songs but a mixture of popular opera such as ‘Un bel di vedremo’ from ‘Madam Butterfly’, ‘The mad scene’ from G Donizetti’s opera ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’. The ‘Jupiter’ from Holst is also good. As a casual listener of opera, I think he is OK but for those discerning opera listener might prefer some formal performance. Song No 1 ‘Intro’ a CM song in Japan without lyrics just Ah……., very new age feeling. On Korean song, track 2 ‘lover’ is good. Actually it is the theme song of七劍, not very sure! Track 6 is brilliant comparable to his "ha weol ga" or ‘Misty moon’ from the ‘Misty Moon’ album. Track 9, ‘forest of memory’ is a cover version of王菲’s香奈兒, not bad. Track 11, ‘Little bird’ should be a Korean traditional song, sounds boring at the first 1 minute but getting better afterwards. He also sung ‘lover’ in Japanese, perhaps Japanese is close to Korean, it’s more natural than singing in English. Generally speaking, I think this CD is easier to listen than his previous ‘Misty moon’.
