| [#1] Dave Brubeck - Timeout (SACD) I will make it short since most jazz fans should have gotten this CDs anyway, but since it has been released in SACD (sinlge layer), I full recommend this classic to anyone who is looking for two things 1. great music 2. great recording. To be honest, I have no idea why I prefer some of the recordings done in the 50's and 60's over what we normally have nowadays, probably because of the simplicity of recording and mastering method back then, probably they were done live and gave a sense of instantaneous tonality, or because of the equipment they used (many of them used tube-based master tape machine), or simply because of the music. Anyway, this is one fine SACD example and as a matter of fact, two of the songs are very famous and have been used many times including commercials, so those who are not keen on jazz could take a bold step and it just might make you enjoy the genre a bit more. Full recommended in every respect.  |

| [#2] Dave Brubeck - Timeout (SACD) CD version ($75 at HMV) is a very best buy. Wondering whether SACD version got the booklet to explain how Dave write each song as the CD version did? Worth to mention Track 5 (Kathy's Waltz) has very special arrangement effect as the drum is beating a 3/4 and the piano is playing a 4/4 in the second half of the song. |

| [#3] Dave Brubeck - Timeout (SACD) The Columbia Legacy SACD single-layer version should have the same booklet as the CD one. It has a 13-page booklet. Did notice HMV's price on CD and I would say 'get it, don't even think', it's classic and like Ck-Blues said, it attempted at new way of musical composition and arrangement, that's even a beter reason a jazz fan should have one, sorry, I bet all of them do already. |
