| [#1] Dave Brubeck Quartet: "At Carnegie Hall" Any fans of Dave Brubeck must get this live set which if I understand correctly was re-released by Columbia in 2001. This probably will be regarded as the best live recording ever done by this legendary quartet. Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Joe Morello, and Eugene Wright worked closely and in high groove with one another on this set and Paul’s saxophone sounded every bit as good as he was on other studio sessions, the surprise for me was Joe Morello’s drum sounding so improvised, alive and kicking throughout the album and captured nicely by this 1963 live recording. This is a 2-CD set and included the famous tunes such as “Blue Rondo A La Turk” and “Take Five Desmond”. Highly enjoyable and recommended.  |
