| [#1] Day & Night This is a long awaited album for me. Before its release, there was only one plug-song - "情深說話未曾講" on late night radio. (Actually there were another song "Big Brother" which I haven't heard before.) The only detail given was that her name is Janice, so-called "see-mui" of Leon Lai, and that's all. What a beautiful voice she has! It is such a rare treat at current trend of rather disappointing local canto-pop scene nowadays. That promo on radio was quite a long time ago, and have been waiting for this album ever since. A few days earlier, her name Janice caught my eyes on a bus stop poster. Album finally released on Apr. 12. and I bought it right away on the next day. I'm not going into Janice's profile here - that should be easily found elsewhere since the album has been released, and seemed many ppl are already talking about it. The package is rather simple, even a bit of an understatement. It has nothing fancy and not much design of any sort. There is a lyrics booklet, with a few portrait photos of Janice herself (and personally, I think the photos could have been done better). This is definitely one very bland package I haven't seen in a long while - especially in HK, where lavish packaging is the norm way to go. But who cares? Music is everything. CD goes onto the player tray. The music is on. What I was hearing is that this is an album full of music with heart and soul. Granted, all were Leon's old song, but with new arrangement by Mark Lui and other musicians, unlike many other pop music artists in HK canto-pop scene, you can tell everyone who had their work put into this album are REAL pros! They really know what music is all about. And Janice voice is just breathe taking. By all means, no, she's not perfect (and no, she's not another Susan Wong want-to-be; not yet anyway). Even with my amateur music training background, I can see that she still need to work on her vocal techniques, etc., but oh heck with it - she's one great refreshment in a long while!  |

| [#2] Day & Night Not as good as expected. Her voice is too thin for some of the relatively heavier songs of Leon Lai and it seems that she was struggling at some high notes. Probably the arranger would like to test her key range. However, she performed better in fast tempo songs. As a whole, a voice more suitable for light jazz songs. |
