| [#1] Norah Jones - "Come away with me" The debut album of this very talented 22 year-old lady. Heard reports she's actually been performing music for quite a while with her own gig and band, yet this is her very first album, and a very good one indeed. She plays the piano and wrote some songs in this very high quality album, reminding me and I am sure many fans of Ricky Lee Jones, with her very laid back and sensual voice, singing out a number of new and classic tunes including the 'Cold Cold Heart' and 'The Nearness of You' (which was superbly rendered by James Taylor as well in Michael Brecker's Grammy-winning album of the same name). Some might complaint that the tempo and rhythm of most of the songs on this CD are similar, and that I would say is quite true, but once you get to know the tunes and her voice, you should have no problem falling in love with the work of this talented lady, and I have no doubt she's got much more to offer. Mind you those who are looking for more jazzy tunes might find this not what they are looking for, then again, although this CD is released by the prestigious 'Blue Note' label, it just doesn’t have to be that way. The CD that I got was made in EU by the way, but the sonic, to me at least, was very good with Norah ideally positioned in the center and guitar nicely recorded (lots of guitar in this CD), very acoustic in nature. Very enjoyable and highly recommended. I am sure you and your loved one will enjoy it, I know mine did, which doesn’t happen too often!  |
