| [#1] Anthony Wilson Trio - "Our Gang" Pure DSD SACD Was first introduced to their music through the very fine Sony/Groove Note SACD demo disc with a track called “Chitlins Con Carne” - a very relaxed, well layout tune that any jazz fans would enjoy. Through reviews I came to understand Anthony Wilson has been a very fine but also very underrated guitarist only in his early 30s, as he is mainly a jazz composer rather than an all-out guitarist. He has earned a number of very prestigious jazz awards and is the son of the famous band leader Gerald Wilson. I just got this SACD disc in the mail and am listening to it right now on my computer and every tunes I have heard so far is of very high quality composition. Lay back and enjoyable and sound to me to be more of a contemporary jazz type. The Trio work is fabulous and deserves to be taken seriously. The disc was recorded live directly to two track using Ed Meitner modified Direct Stream Digital (DSD) equipment, I am not going to comment on the sound since ‘The Absolute Sound’ has given it the ‘Golden Ear’ award, need I say more?  |
