[#441] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club The MPD's version running on ECS LIVA is actually MPD 0.18.11-dsd. You can get the source from git clone git://github.com/lintweaker/mpd-dsd-018 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- [13-Jul-14] Native DSD support now in a working state. It requires support in the ALSA driver (sample format SNDRV_PCM_FORMAT_DSD_U8). Tested on BeagleBone Black with Botic linux driver. See: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/twisted-pear/258254-support-botic-linux-dri$ How to enable native DSD playback support: add the new 'dsd_native' config option to the audio_output section in the mpd.conf file. E.g. audio_output { type "alsa" name "Botic" device "hw:0,0" dsd_native "yes" # BOTIC fixup: request the lowest period time period_time "1" } For DoP (DSD-over-PCM) output, the 'dsd_usb' option is still available. If both 'dsd_native' and 'dsd_usb' are configured the 'dsd_usb' option takes precedence. ** Warning ** Do not enable dsd_native on systems which do not support it ** ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pity that Liva only supports UEFI. What's the advantage of using Beaglebone Black? And how much? I am tempted!

[#444] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club batmanamesIA ching No need to modify the Benchmark DAC2 anymore. I am still using it to benchmark my DIY DAC. HeHe.

[#445] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club Beeos Ching MPD is now under active development in supprting DSD natively. Afterthat, the PCM and DSD signals can be delivered to DAC on the same I2S lines. That means USB and DoP are not required anymore (of course you can still using them). Beaglebone Black (BBB) gona to be the first machine in supporting these and it costs only USD50. Also, TPA is developmenting an add-on board to feed precise clocks to BBB. Unforturnately, I am still waiting for my BBB.

[#446] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club All of a sudden, a Beta of LMS 7.9 had just been released. Will try it on ECS LIVA. http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9

[#447] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club "MPD is now under active development in supprting DSD natively. Afterthat, the PCM and DSD signals can be delivered to DAC on the same I2S lines." I'm having PCM and DSD over the I2S connection. It is using MPD and Hydra-X+ Though the MPD is actually output PCM and DoP to transmit signal to Hydra-X+. While Hydra-X+ isolate and regenerate the signal with its own clock.

[#449] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club In BBB scenario, I guess the hobbyist/ diyer just want to get rid of USB interface and have a simple/direct connection allowing CPU and DAC all listen to same clock source not matter the music is PCM or DSD. Of course, they want to keep the cost cheap enough for everybody (probably less than HKD2K). To me, BBB is just another toy. Personally, I don't believe which Server / Client / Software / Cable/ Power Supply / USB interface or which DAC are the best. It is simply an art of mix and match to suit my own taste. Of course, they must be within my budget.

[#450] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club Just made some progress on LMS 7.9 (DSD). - Installed squeezelite-armv6hf on Cubox with Dop enabled. - Installed LMS 7.9 with PlayDSD plugin on Win 7. They are running very smooth (including DXD, DSD64 and DSD128). Now, I understood the tricks and how they works. Will move them to ECS LIVA shortly. HeHe.

[#452] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club Let me perform some testing first. Daphile can recognize my Cubox and stream all kinds of contents to it. Daphile is just packaging fstab, LMS 7.8.1, PlayDSD and squeezelite all together.

[#453] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club Yea!! Started to test my BBB Botic native DSD player. While awaiting for the Cape to be produced by TPA, I need to assemble my own cape first. It includes : - The first deck is an ordinary USB card. From the USB, I can extract the clock signals. This is for temporary only and will be replaced by a set of crystals (CCHD-957-25-22.5792 and CCHD-957-25-24.576) and TPA OTTO-II. - The second deck is another TPA OTTO-II used to remap PCM and DSD signals into common three wires (BCLK, LRCLK and DATA) depending on the source materials. - The third is an I2S to HDMI adapter. DSD128 is tesing on BBB and Wyred DAC2 using mpd-0.18.11-dsd. So far so good.....hehe.

[#455] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club Finally, I have finished my own cape with preimum parts. No need to wait for TPA one. As a whole, its cost is still under HKD2K. It can automatically switch to the required clock sources (44.1Khz family or 48khz family) and route correctly both PCM and DSD signals to the HDMI plug. No more USB !!! It is a big improvment over Raspberry PI's I2S. On Software side, I have installed both mpd and squeezelite on it.

[#458] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club Installed the latest software on ECS LIVA LMS 7.9.0 DSDplay v1.0 Squeezelite 1.6.4 MPD DSD 0.18.12 Surprisely LMS 7.9.0 / DSDplay and Squeezelite combo are quite stable at this stage. On a battery-powered LIVA, I preferred LMS/Squeezelite than MPD.

Internet Radio and DSD Seek function 終於work番哂. Piggyback (i.e. Twin AD1865) plus new I/V board.

[#460] Benchmark DAC2 Fans Club I2S 最高級玩法 - I have my BBB hacked into a Poppulse Twin 9018 DAC. The BBB simply replaced its original Amanero Combo384 USB module. All PCM, DXD, DSD64 and DSD128 are supported.
