In fact some preamps don't use the same tubes, e.g. 12AT7 in the case of 400CX, 12AU7 in the case of 80C! If we don't use the same set of tubes (which is infeasible if not impossible) but the same branded/type of tubes, we can keep preamps all powered up. This is the only real senario when we use our preamps. If we play each preamp for a few minutes' music only. It is possible to complete the tests in 3 hours even with 2 power amps. Some preamps, e.g. FISHERs and Marantzs, obviously have advantage over the EICOs driving the LEAK 25A. Must use a form to write down marks or we shall have forgotten when all preamps have been tested. |

| [#7333] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Dear brothers, As discussed with Dr. King this afternoon and thanks for his view, I suggest reducing the no. of preamps to be tested to 4 numbers in each group and we may use only one power amp (LEAK TL/25A) if time runs out unexpectedly or unexpectedly on Saturday. If time allows, we can also use a 2nd power amp (EICO HF-30) which is much lower in sensitivity, comparable to most modern tube/solid state amps. We want an enjoyable party and chats, instead of a tough session of mechanical listen, listen, and listen tests! I propose the following list of preamps for Saturday's party: ----------------------------- Group ONE (all mono preamps) (1) Marantz ONE (Jeremy's) vs (2) Fisher 50C "Good All" 版 (NEC - pls. bring your 50Cs to come, OK? vs (3) EICO HF-65 (self-powered) (rcwy's) vs (4) Fisher 80C (modified at output coupling caps) (rcwy's) -------------------------- Group Two (all stereo preamps) (a) Marantz 7 (Colin brings in) vs (b) Fisher 400CX-2 (Tim brings in or??) vs (c) Radford SC22P (Tim's) vs (d) 27M preamp.
