Similar to NEC CD-803 that DenonFanNo2 mentioned, Hitachi DA-1000 is also with a front vertical loading system. The cassette tape recorder loading style is surely fun to look at. But I doubt its sound quality as I've heard that the Hitachi model sounds harsh which seems to be a common negative side of early digital format...

Onkyo DX-G10
Discrete Left & Right Channel 18 bit Linear D/A Convertors with Opto-Drive.
Onkyo's Opto Drive transforms pure light energy into electricity by means of a photo-transistor. The output is then amplified and used as the constant current supply. The DX-G10 employs two such Opto-Drive D/A Converters, one for each channel.
Onkyo's Opto-Coupling prevents harshness in the midrange and treble. This is accomplished by separating the digital and analogue circuit stages electrically using optical fiber technology. A total of 5 discrete optical fibres form a 'light bridge' which serves as a data link between the digital and analogue sides. To preserve signal integrity, the analogue block of circuitry is shielded against stray impulses. DSI (Digital Signal Interference) is eliminated and the edginess associated with it.
Highly rigid, anti-resonant construction. To prevent even the slightest mechanical vibrations from interfering with the proper operation of the laser pickup and other sensitive internal elements, the DX-G10 is housed in a highly rigid, high mass, graphite reinforced steel chassis. The pickup mechanism and modular circuit blocks are fixed firmly to this rock solid foundation which not only shuts out vibrations from outside, but also effectively absorbs internally generated vibrations from the disc motor, power transformers etc.
The laser pickup assembly (a highly modified Philips CDM1) employs a total of four high performance motors optimised for their specific tasks. Of these, the pickup drive motor is the most critical. For the utmost in performance, the DX-G10 uses a high speed access linear motor for this crucial task

I think I like old CDP ...as because the feeling of the making ......

for consider on sound ....

Nowaday .....many new CDP/SACD-P ...sound is very hifi ...
