[#8206] Aaron Rosand It was the first time I have ever heard the American violinist, Aaron Rosand. It seems to me he has quite a following in Hong Kong. How do I describe him? Quite a surprise actually. I don't expect him could be so playful at times. However, he could also hit you hard emotionally. ![]()

[#8214] Daniil Shafran: Shostakovich Viola Sonata, 1975 Transcription by Daniil Sharon After a few days of listening to my first Shafran's recording, surprisingly I like the Shostakovich's sonata most, both the music and audio quality. This was pusblished at 1975, the latest 'classical music' I've ever heard. The pizzicato opening is new to me and immediately captures the attention. the Beethoven Moonlight Sonata comes back in the 3rd movement. The Cello line certainly makes it heavier and more funeral-like. The double stop near the end is amazing and absorbs the audience to the shroud of death. The feeling carries forwards after the end. Shafran's performance sounds very like singing to me in the whole album. If the audio quality of the Franck Sonata is also good, this would be perfect. ![]() 最後修改時間: 2013-12-02 01:39:00

[#8215] Rudolf Serkin: Beethoven Piano Concerto #3 Finally I gave up on recording this, no matter how I adjust the level, there is always distortion. Well, I shouldn't indulge too much in making a recording. :) Rudolf Serkin, whom Andras Schiff believes to be the most faithful Beethoven performer, not just strictly following the marking but also exact fingering. ![]()

[#8219] Beethoven Piano Concerto - Serkin... Wow, it's really 'once upon a time', now Ozawa is probably even older than Serkin at that moment. I sudden remember in Murakami's book that Ozawa was asked by Rudolf Serkin to become friend of his son Peter Serkin, who is now 66 already. 最後修改時間: 2013-12-03 00:19:51

[#8220] Karajan Beethoven Symphonies, 1963 I can't remember why I bought such a poor condition set. There are lot of scratches on the surfaces. They become even obvious after wash. Fortunately these result only crackling and popping but not distortion. Anyway, it took almost 1 week to convert them to DSD files. Also, it has been a lot time since I heard the whole cycle continuously and in order. 9th is really a leap from his little brothers. I cleaned the disc using the washing machine and cleanser bought many years ago, then applied Zerodust on the surface. There was still quite amount of dust and dirt picked up by the stylus on the 1st play. So 2nd time, sometimes 3rd time was required. I'm not sure if it indicates that the cleanser is not good enough. Tascam's setting is as usual, -6db on the channel input. The problem on recording Serkin's LP did not happen here. ![]()

[#8221] Karajan Beethoven Symphony #7, 1st movement Listened to the 3 formats a few times, i.e. CD/PCM, SACD/DSD, LP/DSD. The equipment is Tascam DA-3000 and MyTek DSD. The connection for DSD is SDIF-3 while PCM is AES. Clock source is MyTek and Tascam is slave. Sound level is very similar among all formats, may be LP is a little bit higher CD/PCM is out after hearing just once. Both SACD/DSD and LP/DSD sound wonderful. Initial impression is SACD/DSD is more polished and clean. In particular on passages that instrument sections a,b,.. are ff while instrument sections x,y,.. are pp. The melody of x,y,.. is still relateively clearly presented. LP/DSD, on the other hand, is a little raw but more lively. For example, the bow strength in the string section is stronger and with clearer accent on the first beat. I slightly prefer the LP/DSD on the whole, except the crackling and popping, of course. LP digital recording seems to have potential to 'preserve' the LP sound, may be it's not a matter of analog and digital from the every beginning. It's just the 'Sound of LP' that matters most. Note: comparison is based on impression from speakers, result may be different if headphone is used. 最後修改時間: 2013-12-10 20:09:54
