I used enamel wire to connect the circuit and I did not know there are insulations on the wire so I did not scrape it off. I did not own a soldering iron at the time. This set me back a lot and it was when I was 13 before I built a one transistor radio that works. There were nobody to teach me and not many books around, not to mention I do not have the money. The year was 1959!!! Even though Electronic is my profession now, I am still building! I am starting an all P-P all transformer coupled 300B project. What takes time is to build the chassis. The wooden frame is done using Lace wood and have Dove tail ( Fish tail join for HK ) at the corners. Next thing is to open the holes for the power switch and the IEC socket. The two brass top plates will cost me around $150 USD ( mono blocks ). Ouch! I am so impressed with what the DIYer can achieve in Hong Kong as they do not have the space to do wood or metal work. 由於GG是真的會生金蛋的原因 (這個是根據 DIYZONE 繼硬幹 Nelson Pass 的 ALEPH 系列後, 最近再來硬幹 Transcendent 賣了超過千套 GG 前級的大量繁殖案件消息資料顯示), 那個被圍事件照最近一次情形看, 疑似是有大集團背影商戶要打沉個體商戶的商業糾紛!!!!

stevey888, you are right. At those days, we do not have much media as now-a-days concerning DIY.
No one to ask, I went to 美通 at North Point, Mr. Yau who was so kind to teach me all the technics in building the 礦石機, Single Transistor 來復機, 接茯O 12AX7 + 6BQ5 機, 那時 Mullard & Valvo ECC83才是HK$3.50 一個, 己等如我一個星期的Lunch 費用. 還不是的心干買了來砌. 回想現在可幸福得多啦, 千零二千元上咁多堂, 又包括埋 Kits, 重要包砌好, 又起碼學識睇電阻及電容數值, 整流電路, 隨口up 得出DC=ACx1.414. 屏,柵,陰極也知係乜, 對完全唔識人仕來講, 確是物有所值. 咁都是水魚, 又唔怕造呀!!

應該話係 " 物超所值 "
直情就是幸福到令人眼紅 !
淨係買kits 買入門參考書都未得 la !
還有最好既係有人在旁指點, 安全進行, 唔駛比電電到飛起同搞到噴火出煙跳電錶.

我第一次砌既係部 marantz 7. 單係接地o個一點就搞到頭都大埋, 就係因為接錯落地o個點, 搞到部機有280VDC 輸出到老爸部後級, 被老爸小左成年 ! 每當對人說起都被笑一大, 還有部機搞下搞下仲差 D upgrade 成 marantz 10, 間中會聽到AM電台廣播.
各位睇左唔好笑呀.... 係你生在褔中不知褔o乍 !

My 1st electronic book is "看圖識電子零件" 2nd is "趣味電子製作" both issed by "萬里". The magazine at that time is chinese "無線電世界" and "無線電月刊"

yes, etsang3, the book from萬里, you would find most applications inside was made up of a transistor called 2T524, which you won't one at all in Hong Kong. At that time, I had the impression that 2T524 was 萬能 and hoped to have one eagerly. Everytime Mr. 尤 of 美通 had to find me a substitute to make the DIY. For 高放, it was 2SB43 and for 低放, 2SB56 both from Toshiba. Everytime, I had to beg Mr. 尤 for a bargain, 他每次都怕鬻, ㄓ韺, 如果唔係我就賴茪ㄗ, 對茈L苦蚆y口, 想茪S不知要不吃lunch多少次啦.
哈哈!! Those were the Days!!

etsang3兄!小弟部機既零件大部份都係嚮早前買多及整機剩落的,再用萬用板組合起來,果粒開關電容都係響電腦電源拆下,再買些少零件砌成.現在買零件唔平,普通電解電容都幾蚊粒,高壓仲貴,電阻好少少都要五、六蚊支砌好一部都幾千蚊,同以前價錢差好遠.而家都好少玩了.
