[#81] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Hi LF Yeung, Thank you for sharing your experience. I have listened to Dynaudio speakers several times, and get the same impression as you. Hi Mr Chan, Yes, I have tried SHL5 before buying M30(LE). Both are good sound but of different taste. As LF Yeung and Gneonhk have commented, SHL5's sound is more smooth and a bit sweeter than M30. It is a kind of comfort sound with big sound stage and good details. M30 is more natural and 'real', but its vocal is still has the characteristic of Harbeth. M30 has higher sound density than SHL5. I think, as the owner of SHL5, Gneonhk can give you more opinion on SHL5.

[#83] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Hi Nismera, Thank you for your comments. If you follow this thread to the earlier posts, as I have mentioned, when I first heard M30(LE) in Century, its performance is even inferior to the standard version of M30. This is because M30(LE) had not run in yet at that time. In the first week, M30(LE) sounds raw. It took a week to become listenable. After 3 months' running, its sounds become stable. So it depends on the stage you listen to it. If you listen to a not-yet-run-in pair, it can sound quite terrible. But if you listen to a 'matured' pair, it can give you a shock because you will find the musicians alive. That is why it is in the monitor series. If you like this kind of British monitor sound, i.e. real and fresh but not cold or rough, I think M30 is the cheapest speaker to lead you there. M30(LE) definitely take you to a even higher level. The monitor speaker that can definitely better than M30(LE) is ATC 50A. But their price different is 4 - 5 times. According to your description, I believe the pair of M30(LE) you have listened to was freshly taken out from the boxes. For those brothers who want to hear the performance of M30(LE), I think the easiest way is come to my home and listen to it. Anyway, thank you for your input. Regards, dkjg

[#84] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi I tend to agree with the comment of Nismera, M30(not LE) is tighter compares to C7, gives you a more "modern" sound, but if I want "modern" sound, I wouldn't choose harbeth Maybe LE is better than normal version, but I only auditioned the normal version only.

[#86] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Hi Rover901, Thank you for your comments. I think it is more appropriate to describe the sound of M30 as monitor sound. And it is British style monitor sound, which share the same characteristic with ATC. And this is opposed to the monitor sound of dynaudio acoustics. And it is also different from 'modern' hifi sound if you classify the sound of, say, Revel as modern sound. The characteristic of monitor sound is neutral and usually have high sound density, so it can be sounded aggressive if not matched with the right amplifier. But for the so call British monitor sound, the vocal is still a bit warmer than, say, Dynaudio Acoustics. How can I give this comments, you may ask. Because during the period of 2004 to early 2007, I have a setup of home studio. Which includes HHB Cd recorder, Apogee ADC/DAC, Z-system, Avalon design mic-pre and compressor, audio technica microphones, dynaudio acoustic BM6A as the monitor and others. During that period, I also have the chance of visiting some studios in HK. And actually the most popular monitor speaker in HK is Yahama. So I quite familiar with the sound of studio monitor. Some of my studio gears were sold through here in early 07. And some were still in my home at the moment. So if any brother interested in these studio gear can give me a pm. Therefore, I suspect what you referred to as tight, actually is due to high sound density. I think this is a matter of personal taste. And actually, the first Harbeth speaker make me fall in love with is SHL-5. Will talk more on why a buy monitor 30 (LE), eventually, tomorrow.

[#87] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi according to alan shaw, there is no burn-in or warm-up in his speakers. the differences are just from our ears getting used to the sound as time goes by. :P

[#88] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Dear brothers, Some of you have visited my place and listened to the speaker. And I adopt the suggestion of keeping the speaker finally. That is the reason of not selling the speaker when interested brother agreed on the offer of 20k (my asking price). I am not meant to raise the price. I really think M30(LE) is good speaker. I don't want to give the impression that someone gave bad comments on the speaker then I drop the price and beg for buying the speaker. As I keep M30(LE), I decide to keep Jeff Rowland combo as well because they are good match with M30. I think those of you have listened will agree. As there are more than 10 brothers interested in the Jeff Rowland combo, I am really sorry for not to make the deal even though some brothers have raised the price. During the period of selling the speaker, there are some unusual things happened. I don't know whether they are occurred coincidentally or there are some links in between them.

[#93] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Hi mikelee, I think there are three unusual things happened. But I don't have any solid evidence. I don't know whether it is appropriate to talk about them here. But I think I can talk about the third thing here. On the day after I dropped the price of M30(LE), I received a call from a brother he said he would like to offer 21k. I asked him to come to listen first before making the decision as somebody gave very bad comments. So on that afternoon, the brother came. I let him to treat himself and listened to the speaker with any music he liked. I continued to pack my home stuff. Suddenly I heard a 'pop' sound and I went out he see what's happened. He told me he accidentally dropped the remote. And I told him never mind. After he completed the audition, he said he would like to offer 16k. I turned down his offer, of course. And he left. After he left, I examined the remote and found it was broken and not functioning. I told myself what a unlucky day it was. On that night, another brother visited my place. I told him what's happened on that afternoon and showed him the broken remote. But he asked me why my remote was a plastic one, as his remote was a metal one ( he was also using Jeff Rowland ). I told him I don't know because I also thought my remote was a metal one. We bought the Jeff Rowland at a similar time. I thought we should have the same log of remote. When I think about what's happened on that afternoon, I feel a bit uneasy. But I don't have any solid evidence to point to anything. But I still think it is a bit unusual. So what do you think?

[#94] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Hi dkjg, I think you'd better be careful when you have another brother checking your gear. As you don't know him, anything can happen while you're not with him.

[#95] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Hi dk hing, You are so nice and a bit careless for those visitors for audtion. You should be more careful and treat your stuff by yourself. Otherwise, it will create some unnecessary accident which damage to your lovely gears. Regarding JFDG remote, it should be a metal one only as I had Concentra 2 before for long period. I have friends who like JFDG very much and both of them use metal remote. Do you buy it from 2nd shop? Or otherwise, you have to double check with the shop which sold JFGD combos to you.

[#96] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited edition) I have used the current model JR Concerto Integrated Amp, although the remote is quite heavy, but it still has a plastic housing... I too drop it on the floor once and a small piece on the bottom chipped off; a similar case also happened to my friend with the same remote, and he ask the dist. for a replacement housing, and it would cost $800. In your case, I don't think your remote was 'swapped' but its just carelessly damaged by your visitor... Good luck on your speakers sale! ![]()

[#99] Harbeth M30 ( 30th signature limited editi Dear brothers, Just finish all the packing works. As I decide to keep M30(LE), my plan for the new hifi setup would be changed. Instead of buying a expansive floorstand speaker (such as Indra or 100A), I will buy 1 or 2 more pairs of bookshelf / standmount speakers on top of ESL2805 (will try my very best to persuade my wife to let ESL in). The candidates include Tannoy Autograph min, Proac Response D2, WLM speaker. Any other suggestion? And I will buy one more set of amplifier as well. I think it should be a tube gear. And I just thinking about Quad II classic, MC 275 or audio note. Any comments?
