| [#1326] Harbeth同好會 之 Hi Fi Show 2008!!! frankly, wooden stand like mine has a mellow sound(especially I don't use spikes), it has less frequencies extension, but a rounder mid., but compares to the old steel stand, I think the steel stand is over damped, a bit lifeless. Nevertheless steel stand provides more solid sound, if your system is weak at bass, steel stand seems to be a better choice. But heavy steel frame like FD II is probably not suitable for harbeth, I believe narrower poles, without sand inside, will give a better sound, and even wooden stand should use smaller thinner woods to make the frame, which I believe will make the sound more lively. I don't recomend using blu tac between spk and stand, which will weaken the response i believe. But I have to use them cos children at home. It is hard to make bad sound with good amp and good spk. The dealer must be very talented. BTW, the sound is even worst than the sound we create in our gathering???? |

And he also thinks Sugden has good engineering built, therefore he recommends it. Another reason is sugden is used to based on the same city with harbeth. hi rover901, haven't heard from you, how is the cable? does it match to your system & taste? |

| [#1329] Harbeth同好會 之 Hi Fi Show 2008!!! i have visited the av show on Sat and visited the harbeth counter after the demo show. i have listened their setup for around 20 min. i observed that there was an old man looked like the boss of the agent company present inside together with his family members (a old woman, 2 child, a few young guys). they just sat down and did nothing. one guy was eating his lunch box. the agent only played the songs in av show 2004 CD one by one when i was sitting there - look just like family business and very unprofessional. the sound of harbeth + sugden combo was not good. but previously i have auditioned SHL5 + sugden int amp in Yau Shing Bldg and at that time the sound was much better which eventually convinced me to get one pair of SHL5 back to my home. i think may be the problem of setup and the cables. in summary, the agent setup and their attitude both were very disappointed, just like the Quad setup every year. |

Some people use Belden military spec silver cable, but I don’t think it is good idea. Every cable design has their intended usage purpose & frequency range; use out spec cable, no matter better or worser, is not good from natural & balance point of view. Other than real silver, many Belden in market are indeed tin-plated copper, some people consciously or unconsciously claim they are silver plated.... The cable I made for you is tin-plated copper too. |
