| [#30] 5687膽 I dug up my pair of 65 CSF and looked closer. Apparently one side is used much more than the other (the top "mercury" almost transparant now... so that one is probably not representative la.... too bad.... I have some from the 70's... maybe I will plug them in just for fun..... |

| [#29] 5687膽 Matt, very eager to know the sound of the 65 French 5687, cos I have never found really good 5687's for the Gakuoh, my new TRON preamp also uses 2 5687, the stock tube is 1978 Raytheon, I have a pair military Raytheon 1955, they sound much better than the later ones. |

| [#28] 5687膽 I think there is a difference in spec between 5687 and 5687WA, at least for the CSF models. 5687WA should be the premium version of 5687 just as ECC803S is the premium version of ECC83. |

| [#26] 5687膽 There is a high chance that French 5687 never exist before 1958. And I think the earlier CSF 5687 is not better than the later CSF 5687WA. I actually prefer CSF 5687WA in my system over CSF 5687. |

From left: CSF IBM 5687 CSF 5687WA Sylvania Gold Brand 5687 with gold pins Tung-sol D-geter rusty ribbed black plate 5687 Tung-sol D-getter 5687 with "3223" marking Tung-sol O-getter yellow plate 5687 I also had a side-getter Raythen/Tung-sol 5687 somewhere. I like the first 2 the most as they are the most balanced with much higher fidelity.  |

| [#16] 5687膽 If you would really want to try another tube as 5687, I'd rather suggest ECC99. It should be more closer to 5687 than 6900. You can buy new ones right from the factory as they are still under pruduction. I myself would concern more about the conditions of a tube rather than its brand name. |

| [#15] 5687膽 6900 is certainly a good tube but it is not a 5687. The Ra of 6900 is 1.6K while that of 5687 is 2.75K. Such difference should be significant enough to justify 6900 working under a different load. Their Ia/Vg curves could be quite different as well. While this doesn't mean that 6900 would not work (apparently OK to human's ears) in the place of 5687 in most cases, a difference in sound merely because of this mis-match of work load should be natural. I wonder whether real brand new Bendix 6900 is still available. I once bought a pair of second hand 6900 and found them largely deviated from its spec. The seller sent me another better pair but they were still not as good as they should be. I suggest you check the conditions of your 6900 and, if you would use it as 5687, see whether the resulting working conditions of your amp would be too different from the designed ones. |

| [#14] 5687膽 if you are new to 5687, just get a few good ones to try la, none of them (except the bendix) are expensive. should be only a few hundred each. The taiwan shop listed below by antonio have some, so just get a pair to try la. Sound-wise, clear, high resolution, delicate. But gain, you will have to have something to compare against....like the tungsol or something.... |

| [#11] 5687膽 I did try most of the 6900 in the pictures and the middle one is the best 6900, though the 6900's are very neutral, almost too neutral. The middle one slightly warmer and works great in the kondo m7, the one 5687 tube version. I just ordered the 1951 tungsol to try as well. The normal mid to late 50's tungsol is too thick for my taste.... The csf 5687 is indeed great. Will try the early 60's raytheon later. There is also the amperex holland 7119/e182cc which is a close but not exact replacement. The first version, pinch waist one is good for vocals and people who listen mostly to Choi Kum will love it |
