[#1] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system I'm trying to experiment with a subwoofer addition to my 2-channel system. If I'm buying a new amplifer or integrated amplifier, how should I add such subwoofer to the system? What shold I look for in such integrated amplifer, or preamplifier / amp combo? Power or no power for such-subwoofer etc. Recommendation would be much appreciated. Thanks for teh suggestion & advice. |

[#2] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system for 2 channel system you will need 2 subs simplest form of subs are passive. whether using passive or active subs you will have problems of matching sensitivity as well as crossover point, phasing to LR speakers you may consider using a av pre amp plus 2 channel power amp and active subs. this will be similar to your playing dvds but then the av pre/pro will do the decoding and crossover in the digital domain before converting to analog signals. av pre/pros suitable for critical music listening are hard to find and recommend. |

[#3] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system some active subwoofers have plate amp which can accept speaker level input and do crossover then output to LR speakers. you will need deeper research to find those. |

[#4] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Most newly designed integrated amp are equipped with subwoofer output just like the AV amp. Regards |

[#5] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Hi cpu8088 RE: "whether using passive or active subs you will have problems of matching sensitivity as well as crossover point, phasing to LR speakers " That was one of my big concerns on technicality and on coherence. How would other hi-hands tackle this problem in a 'low-hand manner' ( since I'm pretty low-tech )! Thanks. |

[#9] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system My system is 2 channel. But I have a subwoofer to complement my planar speakers. It is a REL that has high-level inputs (hooked to amplifier's speaker terminal). Even if you do not buy a REL, you should go visit its website. Its highend subwoofers are all for stereo applications. Why you think subwoofer is for AV only ? |

[#10] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Thx, Kenny Like I said the connectivity & coherence / matching issues has been my big concerns. KC |

[#11] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system What is your amp ? what is your speaker ? Please treat subwoofer is an important element of your system. And it has limitations too. My REL subwoofer costs almost the same, or more than, as my speakers, which is an extreme, but I try to make a point that subwoofer is an important element. And, people pay mega for its system - amp, cdp, speaker - all because a few more hz of bass, so a good subwoofer really helps. As for matching, coherence, it is very easy as long as you choose the right subwoofer. |

[#12] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system kenny bro, Some people feel that subwoofer distorts the pureness of the front speaker sound. What would you say to them ? |

[#13] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system very good idea, you can listen low bass of the music ! using active sub woofer will be easy integrate amp should have strong power ! |

[#14] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system If it works well, subwoofer has no interference with the main speakers. If it sets right, one cannot tell the presence of a subwoofer. Anyway... you also need a good main speaker. If your main speaker has only a 4 inch bass, which at best goes down to 70 Hz, and you have a low end subwoofer that has a class-D amp with a 8 inch woofer and a poor braced cabinet, it just won't work. |

[#15] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system any ching try connecting power amp to active subwoofer then using the subwoofer speaker out to the speaker...for this setup, will the low frequency go straight to the subwoofer and the high and low frequency to the speaker system.. any draw back of this set up?.... why i ask is that my power amp only have 1 output and current setup is both power amp and subwoofer feed from the preamp directly. thanks |

[#16] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Hmmm... It is not good to use the subwoofer's crossover/filter for your main speakers. The subwoofer crossover/filter is usually very poor. |

[#17] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system There are 2 ways to use a subwoofer. 1st is to use a crossover - low bass goes to subwoofer, treble goes to main speakers etc etc.. In this way, the crossover must be well made. 2nd is to use a subwoofer to add bass to the sound. So main speakers do their job, and subwoofer just adds bass frequency. If you have an AV amp, then your subwoofer is 1st type. Sound performance would depend on your crossover setup either in your AV amp, or elsewhere, like in a subwoofer. If you have a 2 channel setup, then there are audiophile grade subwoofers that can just add bass to the system. Key is, the subwoofer integrates just right with the main speakers so that the frequencies are filled up nicely smoothly from top to bottom. Best is no one can tell there is a subwoofer. |

[#18] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Wilson alexanda ,PNC, big ATC still require a subwoofer in demo ?? if the woofer is less than 8 inch, it can not produce low bass (below 40hz ) or the bass bass may be 40hz - 10 db ? |

[#19] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system Thx Kenny and others for the ocntribution here. I guess the hardest art is the 'matching' expecially on 'speed' and tonal quality. And unliek the AMP and speakers, there aren't too many types of audiophile subwoofers around. And changing gear will be very problematic!!!! |

[#20] Using subwoofer in a 2-channel system 'matching' low bass has no direction ! but most of the subwoofer are for movie which produce a lot bass around 50hz . subwoofer for music is for low bass in quality below 40hz ! therefore, only a few brand in the market are suitable, be careful in selection !! |
