| [#2103] Quad ESL speaker dkyyu, I have seen it yet. Someone told me that the wrecked body of ESL57 is available somewhere. Absolutely no knowledge concerning the conditions. I need Patrick to evaluate the chance of restoration. It is still a long way to join your ESL 57 club, Even I owned a pair of 63 for couple of days. |

My son have went back to SF the day before yesterday. I'll try to finish my mylar mounting job for the bass penal of the ESL63. Will update you folks on progress and post more photo. Regds |

The reason I started store up my Pu-er tea collection since early 90s was only for sharing, not for storing or selling. CP, my VT75 is still plugged, however, HC Lee opined that the bass from the VT75 was slightly over tight. May be the tubes need more burn in or some speaker re-positioning is neeed. We may switch the KT66 and VT75 forth and back and see which kind of KT66 tubes best suit our QUAD II. Patrick, please bring your new 紫沙teapot to 開壺when your next arrival. |

| [#2106] Quad ESL speaker Dear all, If people have a problem of getting a good pair of Quad II, i think Quad 303 is a very good option. I have connected my pair of OTA ESL57 with Quad 33 and 303 system. I think they matched very well. Also OTA routinely install 303 protection circuit so removes my worry of causing any damage to speakers. Considering the cost, Quad 303 and 33 is only $3000-4000hkd, like the price of a good quad set of GEC KT66. But the performance is very good. A real bargain. I am considering using Quad 303 for my stacked ESL57 project. I am going to collect another pair of OTA speakers in December. I am still thinking how to make the frame. Another option of upgrade is to bring Quad 33 and 303 to NET audio for modification. Anyone have any experience of using Quad 33 / 303 system? Cheers Powercord  |

| [#2109] Quad ESL speaker powercord, I have the Quad 33/303 system for quite a while and I did tested it on the ESL set up. It sounded nice and stable for sure, but that's about all. In terms of musicality, it is nowhere near a Quad II nor any cheap Leak amps such as Stereo 20 or 25+. If you need more power than the Quad II, I'll certainly recommend Leak 25+.  |

| [#2110] Quad ESL speaker May be irrelevant, but I also have tried the 303 with the ATC20, with a tube preamp! I was rather amazed by the command of the 303, good driving power! But it has a darkness in the sound that not everyone will like. Maybe just my specimen. |

I had tried to match them with so many amps, from Jadis JA80 to Mark 335. Eventually I can only live with Marantz 9 driving them. The Quad 303 is now driving the MG12 and it clipped at higher volume. |

| [#2112] Quad ESL speaker cpsjj: I think most transistor amps will clip disgracefully in your warehouse! Truth to tell, I didn't drive the ATC20 very hard. I'm not so sure about the QUAD preamp. It probably will also overload easily with CDP of higher output. Soon I'll have to come over for the "augmented" ESL! :-) |

I have two questions pluzzing in my mind since the first day we met. 1) Given Maggie is a dipole speaker, why placing the front side to the rear wall or any difference made if the other way round? Any advantage I can apply to my semi-dipole ESL. I tried before but I did not appreciate my ESL place in this way. 2) Why I hear no sound come out from the rear of your Maggie? Any trick or just my illusion? I hope you could kindly advise me your latest trick perhaps when we next meet if inappropriate open discussion in web-site. | [#2119] Quad ESL speaker Dennis, My Maggie is having her bust to the listeners, not her ass, I am afraid. The effects are nevertheless identical even if you have her reversely orientated because the Maggies are truly dipolar in nature. As such, she would be equally happy whether you go for it in the front or from the back. You can tell though, in case it’s too dark for the naked eye, as soon as you reach for her inputs which are always a few inches down her lower back. The ESL57, on the other hand, cannot be called a true dipole. The sealed box of power supply and its ancillaries would invariably block the radiation to the rear by a substantial extent. The ESL are very orthodox beauties in fact. |

I've found my Rupert stands work pretty well when the ESL are screwed mounted onto the Rupert tightly. Intruments are sharper with extended sound stage. Some like spiking the Rupert and some says no. Any opinion on Rupert? Spiked it or not? |
