[#2183] Quad ESL speaker Dennis, To my ears, the minor problem comes from the bass panel. The bass is not as tuneful and tends to produce a one-note bass. Try to run them in with more rock music with loud and hard bass. The absence of some of the rear damping materials may also constitute such effect. Did you purposely remove them? The relatively short distance from the front wall requires all the damping materials there. I once tried to remove all the damping materials and placed the ESL 11' from the front wall. I got much deeper soundstage but for some unknown reasons, the imaging was not as vivid. Feikeung...................welcome back. We have yet to taste your fillet mignon. I really don't know what DJ mean with the hairy crab; he told me he's not into shares.

[#2184] Quad ESL speaker Dear Dennis, Hearty thanks for your music/tea session yesterday. I really enjoy the beautiful pulie tea, the music and the nice chitchat with our friends. I was very impressed as to how precious and rare these tea is. Thanks again for the genuine 紫砂 teapot and the favorite Alan Tam records. I look forward to learn more about tea tasting from the tea master. Your ESL57 sounds better and better. It has the true ESL57 standard and the unique musical charateristic. I would just sit back, relax and enjoy the music if I were you. Regds Patrick

[#2185] Quad ESL speaker Patrick, CP and DJ, Thank you for sharing your valuable time with me. Just drop in anytime for a cup of tea whenever feel free and pass by Hung Hom. I still have saved up a little other kinds of antique teas for sharing before their extinct. Frankly, although minor, I share same feeling with CP and DJ that some tightness noted. After reviewing the current set up and positioning, I notice some enhancements can be made by: 1) pull out the ESL 5 inches farther away from front wall such that both ESL are sitting exactly 1/6 along the long side of the room from solid wall to wall. This will also allow the ESL sitting almost 1/4 from solid rear wall to front wall bay window. 2) change the long mesh Mullard EF86 to old type fine mesh GEC729. Haha, the Z729 are my secret weapon not shown to anyone yet even Blue ray Edmond. Will try out tomorrow morning and further report.

[#2186] Quad ESL speaker The "Vintage-Tea" intensive course conducted by Dennis was really informative. The first time I learn that tea has "first growth" same as Red Wine. Dennis served us some first growth tea which does not exist in our planet anymore. According to Dennis, they were chop down during Culture Revolution. This is very sad. I wish Dennis preserve that tea and somebody would analysis the DNA and clone that DNA for reproduction. Obviously, it is improvement from compared last time I listen to his system. Dennis told us that he has followed the instructions from Audio Cite November issues concerning the placement of Loudspeaker. Look forward to seeing the difference of his magic GEC Z729.

[#2188] Quad ESL speaker I still have saved up a little other kinds of antique teas for sharing before their extinct. (Dennis) ================================================= My term to say thank you for the vintage Pu-Erh served by Dennis. You won't come across many chances to taste those favour since the species no longer exist. Edmond's suggestion to preserve the DNA for cloning is well worth contemplated. I admire Dennis efforts to position ESL for perfect sounding. I wish I have his patience in setting my system. By the way, I have to dig up my Luxman turntable to play the vinyls by courtesy of Dennis.

[#2189] Quad ESL speaker Miss Dennis vintage Pu-Erh so much that I went to buy a "not-so-vintage" cheap cheap Pu-Erh tea cake to quench my thirst in office. The difference is of course like Western Electric compared to a modern chinese "300B" integrated. But at least I got a bit of 300B sound though. ![]()

[#2192] Quad ESL speaker A cello bow by Francois Xavier Tourte has made nearly $200,000 in an on-line musical instruments auction. It was bought by a well-known European cellist who has chosen to remain anonymous. The bow, made between 1800 and 1810 by the maker most credited with refining the bow into the form it holds today, realised $196,000 when it was put on sale by Tarisio, an American on-line auction house that deals exclusively with musical instruments. It beat the previous record for a bow by Tourte of $152,856 and represents the highest figure ever paid for a bow of any type at auction. The bow, known as the "Ex-Romberg", is described by Jason Price of Tarisio as the star of the show; despite other lots that achieved higher prices. The bow"s first owner was Bernard Romberg, the German cellist and composer (and friend of Beethoven), who almost certainly bought the bow directly from Tourte. It subsequently passed into the ownership of Alfredo Piatti, for use with his Stradivari (still known as the "Piatti" and one of the best-preserved Stradivari cellos in existence); his pupil, Robert von Mendelssohn (cousin of Felix); Max Adler (owner of the Sears Roebuck company in the United States) and Edmund Kurtz, principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It is the bow's complete and unbroken provenance that is the most significant element of its sale: the lack of any doubt over authenticity adding considerable weight to its value. Although the buyer remains anonymous, Price says: tThey will make sure it is heard frequently on concert stages around the world. The bow was the most successful lot in a sale that grossed over $4,000,000, making it the second highest musical instruments auction on record, bettered only by Christie's New York earlier this year in a sale that included the "Hammer" Stradivari violin. ----Gramophone----- ![]()

[#2198] Quad ESL speaker DJ and CP, Don't expect too much on a year 93 ORDINARY quality dried store tea cake. They are for daily consumption and nothing close to any antique tea quality. Well of course much much better than those standard wet stored pu-er ypu find in the restaurant.

[#2200] Quad ESL speaker Dear jcml, I used to buy my ordinary tea cake continuously in large quantity (14 to 28 piece) at around $10 to $100 each piece of tea cake since 10 to 15 years ago. I then kept buying over 100 pieces each year from local store as reserve. Frankly, price of aged puer tea has gone sky high. I would get some green and fresh new puer say year 2003 or 2004 at $100 to %200 each piece from now on and wait for over 10 years. It sounds too long but that's what we the poor people do. I still keep buying new tea each year as reserve to ensure my continued supply after my 60s, 70s, 80s , 90s and so on. If not, I saved my reserve for my daughter and son-in-law. Anyway, my daughter is only one year old today. This is another long story. Haha. To reserve puer, such act will require 1) clean, cosy and dry stored room 2) reliable seller to supply good quality raw tea 生茶. 3) patience If you had $400 in hand, I guess you can buy some recent tea around 8 yr old from reliable store but still need to reserve 5 to 10 more years before serious drinking. If for quenching, follow me to drink 壽味or水仙or龍井 etc as alternative. Unfortunately, most of the time, people would end up buying those dried tea but stored in 地倉using水蒸氣and濕氣 to fasttrack the maturity. However, this is not natural resulting loss of most genuine tea taste and fragrance. If you insisted on buying some for future consumption, I can only recommend two old tea stores in Hong Kong run by 潮州人. One in Kowloon city (Mr Chan) and one in Sheung Wan (Mr Lam). I'll write you their address when we met this month end. Be careful, some old and wise men warned me pu-er tea can become 玩身家 if getting addictive.

[#2201] Quad ESL speaker Dear Dennis, Thank you for your elaborated explanation of how to buy and store pu er tea. Please send the tea stores address to me (because I have to work weekdays and still have no chance to meet you and hear your great ESL57). I used to buy Chinese tea from Ying Kee. P.S. I once heard a man in a second hand hi-fi shop said drinking vintage good pu er tea will make you feel very happy ; also you can feel some heat raise up from your spinal cord? Is it true?
