^_^ __________________________________________________ Edmond 兄(Blue-ray?) 今日真係辛苦晒你! 我找不到有關兄製造的Linn板thread。可否提供? ____________________________________________________ DJ兄, 僅祝途上順風!一切問題都可安頓下來! __________________________________________________

[#2294] Sanctum Sanctorum Lost access to the internet so I went to Macau to enjoy a couple of days, sorry to miss the party in Dennis' and the opportunity to meet with 風鳴----康格爾. I made 2 pilgrimages to the shrines of the 2 scholars on the 28th before I left; both doctors, one medical, the other philosophical. Quite obviously not for any luck in gambling. It was my second pilgrimage to the One who Heals. The strict discipline out of what seemingly a total disarray begins to look more apparent. The JBL Century Gold was stacked right in front of the alreadily well hidden Tannoy Canterbury making the borough completely invisible, taking up all its breathing space to scream. Obviously the CG needs more time clearing its throat, especially for the violin. The Canterbury was driven respectively by 7591, 2A3 and 300B, all gave out its signatory warm and relax sound. The bass was particularly impressive, singing in chorus with all the other drivers and packing boxes. A branch of the British presentation which is yet so different from the ESL. The visit to the sanctum sanctorum of the philosopher in DB is a thought provoking experience. It must be the most accurate reproduced sound I've heard in any home environment. Room treatment is elaborate to the extremity. 11 sumo-sized tube traps stood by hungily devouring the unforgiven reflections. Uncountable panels lying on the floor and hanging from nowhere portraying the same strict discipline out of disorder as the other doctor. The entire frequency spectrum is surprisingly coherent with the full-fledged system of the Lowther Lambhorn, super tweeters and a lightning fast servo subwoofer. Some surprised playbacks of a few familiar pieces demonstrated the accuracy of the system; the bongos of Hotel California in Hell Freezes Over were played with unrealistic thundering bass which showed that the recording must be processed; the deep bass at the end of A Groovy Kind of Thing of Jheena Lodwick which boomed and rattled even the balcony at Dr. John's was reproduced with only traces of audible bass but with the sofa shaking. The room was so carefully equalized that the room frequency response must be ruler straight. However, the room sounded bit overdamped to my liking. The slight reverberation present in a "normal" room is completely absent. It sounded more like an anechoic chamber or as diftfy put it, in a positive way, listening live in a recording studio. All the elements of excellent sound reproduction and music are there: deep soundstage (probably could be a bit wider), focussed image, accurate timbre, sexy vocal, silky midrange, skyhigh treble, deep and tight bass, coherent freq. spectrum, you name it. Yet I just find it less touching, unemotional, as rational as the owner. But how come a singer would sing unemotionally and accurately recorded in the studio but would sound passionate in some systems. Chan Kit Lai was awfully played, even worst than by the ESL, which should be the case in terms of accuracy. But I bought the CD because it was beautifully played in Gingers' 3/5a. There is not a single element that I could name to put a criticism on, in science or in art form, yet I just felt something is missing, something I don't really know. Damn, what the hell is it, can you tell me drwkng!

[#2297] Quad ESL I think Dr King's system is on accuracy and fidelity while CP hing's system is in musically of the mid-range. Both demonstrate and achieved what the owner's target, high hands. This is the best Dr King's sound I have heard since 10 years. I will seasoning my set up, per the taste of both high hands' system to my personal preference. ^_^

[#2298] Quad ESL diytfy hing, My goal is no different to drwkng's - accurate sound reproduction with no compromise. Yet accuracy should include the emotions of the artists if these are present in the studio performances or live performances, in whatever form. There is nothing of drwkng's strenuous room treatment or the quality of the sound that I am not convinced of. He must be a few large leaps in advance of me but yet in the process, something has lost. What this thing is in terms of the known factors of sound reproduction or a combination of these is unknown to me. I just want to be sure that I can take care of this on my way to achieve accurate sound reproduction. It is not a matter of inclination. Accuracy and musicality should not be mutually excluded. Gingers, The CD is the same old "Green Swallow".

[#2299] Quad ESL cp, my pet theory is that once the room acoustic is kind of sorted out, the system will be very sensitive to the rest of the playback train. i suppose you noticed the difference between the rme dac and non-oversampling 1543 dac. the rme being studio grade dac is really brutal. the 1543 is more listenable but probably less accurate. i got the rme for reference when i tune other dacs. when i finished the acoustic treatment, i found my 45 amp runs a bit out of juice at times. without the reflections to boost the sound level, it is being pushed a bit too hard sometimes. i need to get a more powerful amp to give a bit more headroom and probably more relax sound. the width of soundstage can be easily increased if i remove the side panels. but then it is not really real, is it?:-) i find the vocal 'less emotional' when i first have the bass traps in place. the full range especially the low end tends to 'cloud' the midrange. this is without any acoustic panels at the first reflection points so the room much less damped especially from mid bass to high. i 'guess' the frequency spectrum has a lot to do with our perception of 'emotion'. in the rooms that i measured, all of them have significant dips in frequency from 30-100 hz. it is only a matter of over which range. i use headphone as a sanity check. although headphone does not create the sense of soundstage, it does give you a more accurate tonal playback given the absence of room influences. if you try to listen to chan kit lai'cd through an accurate headphone amp, you will know what torture is. i'm going to build another amp and probably tune my other dac to give a more 'pleasing' sound. i'll invite you back again.

[#2300] Quad ESL i'm going to build another amp and probably tune my other dac to give a more 'pleasing' sound. i'll invite you back again ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To be invited back............a second time is always a great honour. - this is the cliche story Donald Tsang unshamingly copied from the book "Instant Eloquence - A Lazy Man's Guide to Public Speaking" as the start of his maiden speech to the foreign correspondents as the CE of HKSAR. As a true lazy man, I am doing the same, stereotyping the same story to express my appreciation to drwkng's repeated invitation : I remember when Winston Churchill received an invitation from George Bernard Shaw to one of his opening plays back in the early 1900's. The note read: "Enclosed are two tickets to the first-night performance of a play of mine. Bring a friend - if you have one." Churchill sent back this reply: "Dear G.B.S.: I thank you very much for the invitation and tickets. Unfortunately, I am engaged on that night, but could I have tickets for the second night - if there is one. A return engagement is not always automatic, so I'm proud that there is one for me - a second night.
