It will be waste if you don't listen to this. I'll sure get them working and you can have them on long term loan as I have extra pair. I just want all ESL brothers to share this beautiful sound. I tried ECL82, only 1W and vocal and chamber are still beautifully played. Obviously there is insufficient bass; but Patrick is not looking for very deep bass though.

The V73 and ESL57 combo is hard to beat. Within its limitations, the V73 has a firm grip on ESL57’s diaphragm. Unfortunately, it runs of out juice too early.
I have a suspicion that Jadis JA-30 would make ESL-57 really sing. Highs on the JA-30 are silky smooth --- reminiscent of smoking goodie Columbian stuff in the good old day.
Incidentally, Peter, Paul and Mary’s “Puff the Magic Dragon” was about smoking dupe……………

jm2c, ESL is a quite big eater.
fix on pentode pp or OTL are better.
45,2a3 must be in PP.

I rather RCA 50 and push-pull mode with phase splitting transformer. This double the power and won't be course on static speaker.

Just a thought!

Since JA30 is hot in the market and hard to get, I look forward to try Feikeung's Graaf OTL and CP's V73/74 with my ESL57.

Just to straight out the confusion here :

V73 is a EL42 PP amp with 3W output
V81 is a EL84 PP amp with 15W ouput
V69 is a F2a11 PP amp with 25W output
V101 is a EL156 PP amp with 100W output

V72 is a mic pre-amp which can be used with the above but has no volume control itsself.

V74 is a line pre-amp used in studio which needs heavy modification to work with the above power amps.

For a relatively small listening area, the V73/74 combo is quite adequate, assuming you don’t listen to opera or large scale orchestral music at the sound level like I do. Julius Futterman’s OTL and Graaf GM 20 have been rumored to be the best amps for the ESL57. The former being too finicky, the latter, which occasionally floats around at HK$20K on the 2nd hand market, seems the most logical choice.

I personally prefer the Graaf merely because of it's out look. The Julius Futterman uses too many tubes (a total of 13 tubes?). The Graaf looks nicer.
