[#2447] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick Thank you very much Patrick for your help. Look forward to hear good news from you. The single ESL57 is playing up to now from this afternoon. My family members say its sound is good.

[#2448] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick jcml, We got the mylar film, no worry. However, we will have to wait for the graphite powder to come. Hope you are enjoying the ESL sound, albeit mono. BTW, what amps are you using?

[#2449] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick Patrick, It's the Quad 34 pre and Quad 306 power amp now. Source is Studer A727 CD player. Music through one ESL57 is still quite enjoyable for me. Other amps I have now is the Mark Levinson 26S pre and 27.5 power amps, they are now driving the B&W 802S3. I am a low sound pressure (low-fi) listener. Any good suggestion for the ESL57?

[#2450] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick jcml, Glad hearing you and your family are so pleased even being with one ESL. This is one kind of a speaker that one hates or loves. I hope you understand more now why we this weird minority group of people is becoming so addictive to the ESL.

[#2451] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick The burnt in the lower center of the treble penal is so severe, that the torn daiphragm touches the stator, resulting high voltage discharge and causing the amp fuse to blow. I disconneted the power supply for the treble panel and ran a test with just bass panels and it sounded normal. The other ESL57 is in excellent condition and sounded very sweet. ![]()

[#2454] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick It shows better with dust cover removed. As you can see, the burnt was right at the connecting rivet. It caused the conductive paint around the rivet to burnt away. and the area will be quite large after scraping the loose plastic powder away. I will be have to drill the panel rivets (almost 60 pieces) to open the stator in order to determine whether it is beyond repair. ![]()

[#2455] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick Patrick, and jcml, Just my opinion. If the treble panel rebiult will last over several days. Unless, Why don't we simply consider to purchase a pair of brand new trebel panels from One Thing Audio and plug them in. The cost should be between GBP150 to $200. Please check their web-site for price.

| [#2456] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick purchase a pair of brand new trebel panels from One Thing Audio -------------------------------- Dennis......Thanks for your suggestion. That will be the fastest and cleanest way. However, if the treble penal can be repaired, it will save money and most important, maintain the original Quad ESL sound because the treble panel in the other speaker is still in excellent condition. jcml has also asked me to replace the EHT borad with original Quad circuit for him. | [#2457] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick Dear Patrick, In view of the number of rebuilts on hand, I hope to make a suggestion to strive a balance between time cost and material cost. Just an alternative for consideration. |

[#2459] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick Drilling the rivets off required some technique. You only drill to remove the brass portion of the rivets. You don't want the drill bit to touch (or damage) the stator. It is a total of 62 rivets in the trebel panel. It takes less an hour to remove all of them because I have done it before. ![]()

[#2460] ESL57 inspected by Master Patrick Upon opening of the stator, everything seems ok except the big burnt. That is the only damage in the whole daiphragm. ![]()
