[#2504] 余 慕 英 Why not 余愛蓮 instead, for a die-hard lover of Linn ____________________________________________________________ j_l, Dennis is already nake-named 余 慕 蓮 in our previous postings and which he had accepted with pleasure.

[#2505] 余 慕 英 It's fine that Dennis has already accepted the nick-name "余慕蓮". I just want to say that "余愛蓮" is slightly better. "余" = "我". "I love Linn" could be more appropriate in meaning and without any sort of derogatroy sense.

[#2506] 余 慕 英 CP, “The hopeless parents are going to perish one day and our hope can only reside in the younger” Well, that’s a moot point yet a rather delightful argument! While I cannot really dispute the loftiness of your intentions, nor the perfect good faith of our Lady Yu, I have the fear that both of you and many others as well may be encouraging the inadvertent parents to become spendthrifts and keep spending more and more decorating the front gate of their house while contuinue skimping themselves on what is essentially their most urgent responsibility.

[#2507] 余 慕 蓮 CP, You must have learnt about the cutting edge mono-rail in Shanghai. Why spend 5 times as much to build this mono rail when a modern train can do the job just as well. The money so saved is more than enough to build a hundred schools in Tibet. You see what I mean.

[#2508] 余 慕 蓮 I was told that the mono rail project in Shanghai was meant to be a prototype that China wanted to learn from the Western World like Germany and Japan. Through this project, engineers in China could have a close study of how this technology can be developed at home. I will not be surprised at all, in a decade or two, we will see this technogology improved and implemented throughout China. With the economic growth and geographic spread into small villages, magnetic train could be an answer for low cost fare for villagers and farmers, and an added advantage of less damaging to the enviroment than cars and planes. It is not easy to run a country like China, there are so much we have to look at, both at micro and macro levels.

[#2509] 余 慕 蓮 Yes JC, there are always good causes for heavy spending. The German mono rail is but one of the myriads of white elephants. True, “there are so much we have to look at, both at micro and macro levels” for a developing country as big as China. Given the present economic strength, however, I would be hard put to accept that the poor education facilities are the result of serious shortage of funds. I am sorry if I do sound cynical over this issue. I have so many friends who never stop contributing their hard earned money to build schools in China, even now.

[#2510] 余 慕 蓮 Limage, Agree with you on the so-called charities to China or any 3rd world countries. By the time the donation reaches the needed ones, 95% were spent or kept by the greedy officials. However, investment like mono rail is a smart experiment by China as the investment on the Shanghai project might sound a lot but the outcome could benefit China's infrastructure and social development in the years to come. I believe there is a project on the pipeline, a magnetic railway system is being planned to link Beijing and Shanhgai, without the Pudong project as a test, the scope like this will not be possible.

[#2511] 余 慕 英 may be encouraging the inadvertent parents to become spendthrifts and keep spending more and more decorating the front gate of their house while contuinue skimping themselves on what is essentially their most urgent responsibility _____________________________________________________________________________________ limage, You reckon this is their most urgent responsibility, unfortunately they don't. So whether you do it or you don't do it, they are going to build the monorail anyway. Someone might have convinced the administration to build a conventional train instead, but I'm sure the money so saved will not be spent in rural education nor to build a hundred schools in Tibet. The rural kids continue to suffer until there will be a bloody rural revolution. I don't think I have a high sounding intention to improve rural education in China. I find it an obligation if it is what you believe. You certainly will have different priorities as the administration, be it communist or democratic, but the Catholic Church and Anglican Church continue to build schools in HK despite our huge foreign reserve. Their investment has demand the government to commit resources to continue to run the schools. We are doing just the same thing albeit in a much smaller scale. With our team, we have the benefits of having our own architects, engineers and purchasers. We purchased the building materials, hired our own contractors and we even bought our own school furniture. The principle is there will not be a cent that will pass through the hand of the bureaucracy. But the state government will have to commit not only to match our investment but the continuous resources of running the school. Once the school is built, it will be in the eyes of the public to monitor. Our purpose is served. So if you look at it at a more positive manner, I spend 1 dollar and have ensure that there will be 3 dollars spent by the chinese government in education at one go and a commitment that there will be many many dollars spent in it in the years to come. Isn't that an efficient way to grab government resources?

[#2516] Tea Can you make me your tea when next visiting your studio? _____________________________________________________________ Anytime, Dennis. The tea set is just some super cheap stuff from Dongguan. As for the tea, I'm afraid you would just laugh at it. But the music I have may be good enough to compensate. Let's make it a big gathering when the ESL63 will be ready.

[#2520] What pre and power amps for Quad ESL-57? Dear all, As a new owner of ESL-57, wish to know which are better pre and power amp for ESL-57 to reproduce music. Now using Quad 34 and 306. The serial number of the 57 I have are 55XXs, they probably made in the year of 1960. They don't have treble panel protection circuit as said by information on internet so I am looking for power amps that are safe for them. Thanks in advance.

[#2521] What pre and power amps for Quad ESL-57? jcml, It will be a waste, and a bit dangerous I think, to drive the 57 with ss amps. Quad II will be a very good and safe match. I have a pair of V73 which I think is excellent in driving the 57 but they are only 4W, depending on what you listen. If you don't mind travelling to my place, I have Quad II, V73 , V69 etc to compare.
