[#2763] QUAD ESL Speakers Thanks, Hon, What a nice offer and surely I would appreciate it. I think I have a pair of jones plug to RCA as well as a pair of separate QUAD II power cables hiding elsewhere in the store room. I'll find out and try other pre-amp. I recall the poor sonic result when connecting the QUAD II to Audio Research SP3, Marantz M7 and even Matiise Reference 2 years ago. It seems to me most modern pre-amp don't match with the QUAD oldies. Tim and Gingers gave me a good advice to use Fisher 400CX-2, but we all knew that it's rare and hard to find nowadays. Regarding passive pre-amp, let me consult CP for a matching one. Happy New Year.

Dear Limage and Miss Lee fans friends, I knew you are keen on Miss Lee same as me. Want to read more about her? I quote some forum writing from vinylparadise.com's members for your sharing

Dear Hon, When you met Mr Limage on Monday, remember to ask him to play you my all time female vocal favourite, 李香蘭's 三年. Emjoy. I played the another QUAD 22 on loan from my brother along with my own QUAD 22 today and I'd found no difference at all they made. It appears that my QUAD system is sounding more alive from today after I tucked away my bloody indoor wireless phone (it was placed one inche away from my Linto and Lingo and five inches) from the turntable stand. My family opened the window all day and I think the humid weather also played a part ruining my system in the past week. You are true, the QUAD II/22 system tends to sound a bit 暗 than other amp even after some of my treatment. I can live with it now and will look for a perfect matching pre-amp for my QUAD II in next move. Dennis

[#2768] Adding tweeter to Quad ESL-57 Copied from Dr.Quad: http://www.geocities.com/drquad@pacbell.net/ " During the weekend I added a pair of inexpensive silk dome tweeters to my main set of Quads. While mounting the components on top of the 57's was ultimately disappointing (dispersion pattern too dissimilar from the treble panels & sound quality not quite up to the job), positioning the units face up about 16" behind the speakers for increased off axis radiation turned out well enough to make the set-up a keeper. Thanx DLJ. " ![]()

[#2769] Quad ESL 63 Diaphragm testing of the Quad ESL63 declare successful. After 15-20 times of install/dismantle of the panels, the ESL63 finally sings like an ESL should be. Sound quality is crystal clear. Midrange is smooth. Bass is not boomy but it goes a little lower than the ESL57. I will mount the mylar with the rest of the penals in an unified fashion. There are some photo to share. No. 1, prepare for the mylar mounting. ![]()

[#2779] Limage's Magnepan Yesterday, it was a pleasure visiting Limage's place with John K to listen to a Magnepan system. I was most impressed by the sound from the Magnepan 3.5 ribbon speakers. It is my first time listening to Magnepan, other than a brief audition of a pair of 1.6 in my friend's house last week. The image from the 3.5 is perfect to a sense that the positioning of each instrument, the singer and the background noise can be distinguished accurately. Limage explained about the imaging of a stereo system which I haven't had much experience before. I could clearly hear the soundstage of a studio recording which is completely different from a hall recording. I had to close my eyes most of the time because of the physical presence of the two big panels being quite close to the chair, my brain was telling me that the sound was emitting from the widely separated speakers, but my ears were telling me that the sound is from someone else in the room. The midrange is simply superb, smooth and refined. There is zero harshness in treble, I can say that the treble is one of the most refined that I have ever listened. The bass is tight and fast, overhang is minimal. The control of the speakers from the 20 year old Conrad Johnson 6550 valve power amp is excellent. The Conrad Johnson proves that high power valve amps can have a detailed and refined sound, not just raw power. I was truly astonished by the superb sound. I can genuinely say that for soundstage, sweetness, imaging and refinement, it is hard to beat this system. I certainly have learnt a lot from Limage, I hope that I will try a pair of Magnepan in the future. Thanks again for the home cooked dinner as well. My belly is suffering from eating out too much in HK during Chinese new year, a home cooked meal is always welcome! Regards Hon

[#2782] Limage's Magnepan Morning CP, It's nice to have you back here. Everything settled, smooth and sound? You know, your boy has quickly become the focus of envy among buddies of this thread! Yes, consistency is the thing that I've been working at, quite exhaustively in fact, for the past 10 years. I cannot say that I am fully successful, but my system does behave more predictably now than ever before.
