Your ESL57 is now as good as mine. Enjoy your music for a long long time! Yes, my preference is to place the ESL along side the walls, and therefore having backing behind the listening seat. I am sure the sound will be much cleaner if you raise your speaker 14 inches above ground. I do not see any problem in your environment to achieve a good/razor sharp sound stage like in my magical cubicle. I would do some acoustic treatment to reduce to echo effect in your enviroment. | [#2808] Announcement The fellowship and brotherhood of this thread is today exemplified and exalted to the loftiest with the ultimate altruistic generosity of 2 of our dear pals, the "infamous decadent literati", feikeung and the Jehovah of ESL, Patrick the Saint who single-handedly redeem the entire specy of ESL63 and the ecce homo of restoration is still clear on his hands. They together instructed me to proclaim their generous donation of Patrick's masterwork, feikeung's fully restored ESL63 to this ESL thread for brothers who will be interested to appreciate the dainties of electrostatic and to experience the "closest approach to music", to share the pleasure of music indulgence through the ESL63. The speakers will be available for lending out, free of charge, to brothers' specific home environment for medium term auditioning. The speakers will be with Patrick for a few more weeks to run in, after which they will reside in my humble workshop ready for lending out. Their midget servant, who has a miniscule contribution to the restoration work, will take care of the administrative work of the lending and maintenance of the speakers to share a small credit out of their honour. More announcement on the details will be made when the speakers will become available. My salute again to feikeung and Patrick. |

| [#2811] Announcement Thanks gentlemen......It is very generous of Feikeung to donate his ESL63 to our Quad ESL thread. CP and myself are more than happy to contribute the cost of parts and material, as well as our time and effort for this restoration project. Meanwhile, I have completed restoration of one speaker so far and had been listening to it for a few days. I have also tested the speaker protection circuit using an electronic cigarette lighter to generate sparks. The system works perfectly OK. The antenna located in the speaker base detected the sparks from the cigarette lighter and immediately shuts down the speaker for a few seconds. Will update you folks later on the new developments. Enjoy!!!  |
