| [#3003] Stacking ESL57 I should say 1 pair of QUad II for stacked ESL57 And I made the frame in HK I think the tilting angle etc is not so important for stacked pair. Try using the simplest frame as suggested by Quad and that will do the job. It is very very hard to design a wooden frame that can do tilting for a pair of HEAVY speakers anyway. Regards Powercord |

| [#3010] Polygamy --- the 8th Deadly Sin AlexKY, Martin Logan's excels in other areas. ESL-63 is unrivalled in image depth. However, the image height is somewhat squashed and you get the impression that midgets are playing in the orchestra. The bigger Martin Logans are able to properly render image height, although specificity (lateral) is still a far cry from the ESL-63s. Try playing choir music recorded in cathedrals where the choir is divided vertically in multiple layers and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Quad, Martin Logan and Magepan have their own merits, and I love them all. Polygamy is perhaps the 8th Deadly Sin. |

| [#3012] 雋永的經典名作 QUAD ESL-63 Pro Dear ESL lovers......I have good news and bad news. Which one you want to hear first? OK! Good news first. I am satisfied with the the sound quality of Feikeung's ESL63. It has now re-gained the quality of Quad sound. I am now in the process of final installation. Soon you folks will have a party in CP's place. Here is the bad news. It's about the ESL63 I acquired the day before. Upon dismantle, everything were in excellent condition except the mylar which were in very loose condition. It was not torn or have hold on it. Since I am happy with the sound of Feikeung's ESL63, I decided to restore mine with the exact spec. It will be after I completed restore Allen's ESL63. Will update you folks on complete check up of Dennis newly acquired ESL57 later. Too busy now. Regds Patrick |

| [#3015] Polygamy --- the 8th Deadly Sin Having eye witnessed part of the restoration process of the ESL panels, it is quite evident by now that in terms of reliability, the ESLs are miles behind the Maggies. Unlike the ESLs which operate at very high voltage and which tend to arc and leave holes or even tear the mylar apart when overdriven, the Maggies just bottom gracefully with some flapping noise and that’s all. Even if the time comes to repair the most vulnerable ribbon tweeter, it is nothing more than undoing a dozen screws, put in the new tweeter which costs something like 2,000 bucks and putting in the screws again. The mid and bass panels are virtually indestructible unless they have been grossly abused. During my 30 odd years of living with the Maggies, only one tweeter strip needed to be replaced and that was because my maid dawned upon the idea of vacuum cleaning the speakers in perfect good faith to give me a pleasant surprise! |

Having said that, my LS3/5a has faithfully served me for now more than 26 years and I have hardly cleaned them, not to mention to replace anything at all. But I still prefer the 57. Slender beauty is always more cherished to give us a self-crowned heroic feeling. That's why you prefer Elizabeth Schwarkopf than Joan Sutherland! |
