[#3223] QUAD ESL speaker Dear all, It is our master Patrick who cannot tolerate minor imperfection on ESL57. I am the fellow who can only listen and follow to the master but rather enjoying. Good news, we will be visiting another pair of ESL63 PRO whether we can make a good deal this time. Hon, Any return date fixed? The HR market in HK is becoming far better. It's time to consider home. Powercord and CP, Will check the resistor value on OTA tomorrow with Patrick. CP, What's next? I always have the same question. Meanwhile, we will put an eye on any decent original ESL57 offer for you if you don't mind.

[#3229] QUAD ESL speaker Dear rsbn, I did not realise you live in Malaysia until reminded by rcwy. My apology. Let me buy you a pint of beer or tea when you next visiting us. OK? What I am trying to express is that all vintage turntable at age over 30 yr, no matter Garrard or Linn or whatsoever, are highly unreliable indeed in term of mechanical performance. Few years back, I kept tuning my old Linn's supension everyday despite using new spring replacement and belt but always went into frustration after few hours. Frustration -> poor speed stability and blur sounding. I would have my hard earned cash spent on a newer unit with more reliable performance. Hope my paintaking experience will give a little bit of reference to those who is in the cross road when choosing his analogue front end source. ----------------------------------- Hi Dennis, your inputs has at least "cured" my itchy and curiousity in TT hunt. Sure I would love to visit you all if I have chance to come to HK again. It will be a long list of program/agenda. Too many to list down here...

[#3230] QUAD ESL speaker Dear all, I have my friend in Toronto using my passive pre-amp and 6C33 OTL mono-block for his ESL 63 PRO. The result is stunning. I always wonder that OTL is designed for ESL speakers. Unitil you hear OTL with ESL, don't put down the comment ESL63 is bass shy. I enjoy very much reading in this thread because you ESL owers are helping each other, you are a friendly group. I hope I can contribute some of my findings. I once had the idea to acqiure a pair of ESL63, I phoned up to Feikeung, he is nice guy, he offered me his not perfect ESL63, I dropped it since I was busy in a DAC project. As a matter of fact, I had a pair of OTL 6C33, they are not in use for almost a year, I can offer to lend my OTL to ESL owners. Wait, it weighs over 80 LB each!

[#3235] QUAD ESL speaker Dear all, Just completed dust cover tight-up with Patrick by 1:00pm and we had no time to properly mount the speaker to the stands. Alan came follow by CP, Gingers and KC rushing at 5:00pm. Our big boy Feikeung came last at 5:30pm. Gingers and CP brought their Fisher and Klangfilm to meet my newly refurblished ESL57. As usual, we used my QUAD II/22 as reference point. Well, I was told by Feikeung that we might have heard the best inner audio details on earth today from the ESL57. Strange enough, we did not realise Feikeung loves old cake and we'd found Feikeung fell in love with my 4 old VT75 light bulbs made in 40s. Perhaps his home lighting went out badly needing replacement. My ESL57 still cannot sound loud enough to meet the OTA ESL57 level but frankly I am fully satisfied with the full bodied and magical mid range from the original ESL and would forgive all its shortfalls and weaknesses. There is no perfect speaker on earth. We went to dinner together and started bull shiting around and also talked about the next gun fight with ESL63 or 989 vs our lady Maggie 3.5. Ah, we totally failed to check the OTA resistor value and completely forgot visiting the new ESL63 on offer because time really flied as you may know. Dear rsbn, Be our honourable guest when next visiting us.. jcml, Your treble panel sounds wonderful in my speaker. You are welcomed any time. Will settle my bill when next meeting you. Dear LW, It's lovely meeting new friend who has faith or some faith in panel like us. Are you staying in HK or Toronto? Any chance coming back visiting us on holidays if abroad?

[#3236] QUAD ESL speaker Edmund, Sorry for not mentioning your big hand and helping us to source the parts. The resistors and cap really sounds good, far better than I expected even with only few hours run-in.

[#3237] QUAD ESL speaker I'm convinced that ESL57, when coupled with the proper electronics, has no competition anywhere when it comes to playing small scale strings. Those VT75s are simply fabulous, blowing everything else out of the water......

[#3239] QUAD ESL speaker Gingers and CP brought their Fisher and Klangfilm to meet my newly refurblished ESL57 ---------------------------------------- Dennis In fact, my Leak TL/50+ was silent display :-) As CP advised, I should have a step down transformer inside my luggage next time :-) Your Quad II set up met the esl57 well yesterday. I think it was the best sound I experienced in your home though the left esl57 sometimes clipped. Last time, your esl57 was dull and dark even driven with an el84 amplifier and the 27M. VT75 is a magic. One of my pairs of 12.1 used VT75. Whilst I am thinking to set up a LP turntable, I am strange to see how you can be a die hard LP fan like this. I am thinking you should have a CD player not to ignore the new recordings. Anyways when the CD launched, I was told that some cannot bear the CD sound or they would have headache listening to the CD. Your LS3/5A needs a warm up :-) CP I would check the 50C carefully. When I returned home, I played the 50+ with 50C in a lower volume. 50C seem OK. No problem. The voltage of Dennis's step down transformer, i.e. 124V was a bit high for my 50C. I was worried that it was a 慢火煎魚. ![]()

[#3241] QUAD ESL speaker 50C seem OK. No problem ____________________________ Gingers, Great to know that the fish is still swimming. A small dose of poison sometimes keeps them fresh and agile. Dennis, Can you remind me once again the name of the song that Xu Wei played so that I can try to tune my CD at least slightly close to the Linn performance. I found one named "Fisherman's Song for Harvest" in a CD "The Red Classic" by Xu Wei and ain't sure whether that is the right one. May I also suggest you to try to play the ESL louder with the Quad II and pay attention to the left one as I could clearly hear the distortion even with the Quad II at the later part of the session yesterday. I hope my brutal german soldier blue didn't "raped" your young and beautiful Quad.

[#3242] QUAD ESL speaker CP, The song 漁舟晚唱 is originally produced from Hugo in CD format called 夢鄉 (HRP7127-2). I did not buy the CD and only have this song included in the Audiotechique 25th anniversary vinyl album side B, second song. For information please.
