Would be interested in finding out how the QUAD/Graaf combo stacks against Limage’s Magnepan/Conrad Johnson. Looks like the Duel of the Century is in order. And the good news is: I just returned from Taipei with U.S. Grade A Angus fillet mignon….. |

Is it possible because it's output is presetted on 4 to 8 ohm? Will 16 ohm help (unfortunately it needs soldering and no indication on the output transformer too)? |

| [#3319] Restoration of Allan's Quad ESL-63 I must say a heartfelt "thank you" to our Master Patrick for making my dream of pursuing high quality of music reproduction comes true. 63 has more than enough lowband, warmth and richness. Midband perspectives are very good too, bring a natural and sweetness to voices that is very appealing. Colorations seem mostly euphonic, and subtle inflexions come through with delicacy and expression. Dynamics are considered more appealing than 57. This is a high performance monitor, a great speaker indeed. I must also thank CP, Dennis for their endless passion about Quad and of course Edmoud, the orginal owner of this pair of great speaker. Edmoud, you are most welcome to take them back home for audition as long as you want. |

| [#3321] 老虎頭上釘蚤 --- QUAD ESL 大戰 Magnepan Folks, I'm most apologetic my reluctant absence has put off the "battle of the century". It just reveals the fact that I may not exactly be Ares the god of war, I definitely am no angel of peace. As promised, I did cut short the comatose factory inspection and returned in time for Dennis' party. I agree with feikeung that it's a sin trying to convert the shrine of music in Sai Kung to a violent collosseum. This kind of streetfight shall best be held in a ghetto in Yuen Long where the triad reigns. Just the thought of trailing the Way of St. James with the murderous heavy artillery is itself a blasphemy to St. Limage - the man of halo. The bad news is albeit I tried very hard to run in the newly restored ESL 63, even with the mighty Siemens ELA2805 which can operate non-stop 24 hours 365 days, the 63 is still a sick man. The bass panels rattled badly at a certain very low frequency as if a resonance, particularly bad when I played the Mahlers with Simon RATTLE. Patrick and I will have to open up the 63 again to see if Dr. Patrick has actually left a scalpel in the abdominal cavity. In its state of health, the graceful Quad will surely be destroyed mercilessly by Maggie the whore. Glad to know that Allan's 63 is now up and running. I hope the same symptom will not repeat and then we would know how to fix feikeung's.  |
