[#3424] The Joy of ESL 57 Dear all, I'll check Patrick and CP availability. Please wait for my confirmation no later than Sunday morning. Feikeung, suppose Patrick is done and let me to take your Modena on Monday, shall I drive them to your place at Sha Tin after the QUAD57/OTL meeting same day? Or return to Patrick's place until your notice? My headache is where the hell I can find a matching pre-amp for your Modena given I am only playing LP.

[#3426] The Joy of ESL 57 Dennis, It's best to hang on to the Mondena for a week or so. One day is kind of rushy. I'll lend you one of my Audio Research pre-amps as well.

[#3427] The Joy of ESL 57 Feikeung, The problem is that my car trunk can't carry too much gear at one time and I think I really have to give more space for best protection to your Modena. I guess I can borrow CP's tiny TVC passive pre-amp or a Matisse ref beforehand. I also want to try the passive pre-amp Little Wonder designed by LW as well. Let me think think the matching arrangement and confirm to you on Sunday. Stay tune with this thread.

[#3433] MAF stand for Quad ESL-57 Copy from: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/quadhifi/ posted by David Fagan Back in the early 1990's Chris Beeching reviewed the MAF stands developed by Mike Francis specifically for the QUAD ESL57. This review convinced me to buy a pair of these stands for my ESL57s (thanks Chris). The stands were expensive and they are extremely heavy (and can be made heavier by filling the legs with sand). ...and they are not exactly the most cosmetically "elegant" stands I have ever seen - although they are excellent in engineering and build quality. Not only do the MAF stands raise the ESL57s up by between 12" to 14", they also are designed to tip them "forward" so the ESL57s are "upright" (no longer leaning backwards). By just doing these 2 simple things the quality of the bass was improved immensely. I would never consider going back to using the original "legs" as supplied by QUAD for the ESL57. There are photos uploaded in the group photos area (http://tech.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/quadhifi/photos/browse/b1c8). Dave. P.S. Chris would you like to comment? I would like to know who can make this stand in Hong Kong or China. I like to have one!!! ![]()
