[#3883] New Pork I've also found some CD with quality recording now sounding more acceptable after switching to TVC and OTL. But the trade-off is that the poor recording ones sound more terrible than before ___________________________________________________________________ dkyyu, What CD player are you using? If you are comparing your China DVD player with your Linn Sondek, the consequence is you made a wrong conclusion and missed a whole lot. There aren't too many Stereophile or Penguinn Guide recommendations in my CD collection, some of them are historic recordings with terrible noise. But I still enjoy every one of them with their music content. Get yourself a decent CDP before asking feikeung to bring his operas.

[#3884] New Pork When run in time is due, please be invited to come along with Gingers and Dr King for a cup of tea or a glass of wine/ beer again as well as giving your valuable advice. I inherited the TVC from doctor King and I wish he could make himself available to come along after his trip. ----------------------------------------------------- i would be more than happy to come. i particularly like the tea, wine and beer part.^-^ let see whether i can get the pair of interconnect made before i go. regarding the resistive passive. i think i have enough parts lying around for you to play around including volume switch with resistors soldered already. so don't spend any money if you just want to compare.

[#3888] TVC dennis, you have last part of your message garbled with something else. regarding the Matisse, i think it has pretty high output impedance. i remember i had a single stage power amp at Lee's place many moons ago. the input transformer of my power amp did not match well with the high output impedance of the line amp. but this is the matisse fantasy line amp. i think the problem might be the same with matisse reference.

[#3889] TVC dkyyu, The input impedance of the TVC depends very much on the load impedance and the attenuation selected. What attenuation did you use with the phono stage of the Matisse? If you were workign at the west of 12 o'clock, I don't think it will be a problem. The other consideration is the input voltage which could be too high from the Matisse phono stage especially at low frequency to work the transformer to distortion. I think the max allowable voltage at 20Hz is between 2~3V. I got it from the Matisse spec that its max voltage output is a terrible 200V!

[#3892] TVC according to this link http://www.paulsen.co.uk/rod/matissepreamp.html the output impedance of the line section is 4K! and you are right. the output of the line is 200V peak to peak.

[#3896] OTL for ESL Hi John, Just busy working on my ESL63. The sound quality is still not up to my expectation using ESL57 as reference. I have re-mounted and re-applied conductive material on all penals very carefully and still not up to my satisfaction. I have no complain agaist the dynamic range. It is capable to produce highs and lows. It just lacks the charm from the ESL57. In another word, It just sound like a regular box speaker. Since I have done everything possible on the penals. I am now checking into the elelctronic potion such as the eht, audio signal path, capactitor board and coil board etc. . Regds Patrick

[#3897] OTL for ESL Dear Dennis, Thanks for the invitation to audition your TVC,Graaf OTL and ESL57 combo, and for the excellent Po Ir tea. The ESL and OTL are indeed made for each other, there seems a thin veil has been peeled away. One reservation though is the TVC passive pre. Although it can play loud(probably because of the trans), the micro-dynamics is mildly deficient, making it sounds like slightly lacking in rhythm and pace. Despite the slight drawback, however, the most important element, the musicality still preserved.

[#3898] OTL for ESL Dear KH, Thank you for sharing. I understand there are lot of improvements to make and more tuning needed to restore the rythm and pace. Still a long road to go but should be fun. Doctor King kindly took his handmade cable to me today to try between the TVC and OTL. I really feel the big honour having you and Mr Leung to come around as well as dr King allowing me be the first guy to try on his new cable. I also took a pair of 0.5M KCAG today for comparison. Look forward to report more positive progress later.

[#3901] OTL for ESL A most beautiful cello concerto by Moeran, well played and extremely well recorded. The adagio has a certain similarities with The Lark Ascending just like his symphonic poem "The Lonely Water" dedicated to Vaughan Williams. This is the most beautiful concerto I've heard for a long time. The composer dedicated this piece to a lady cellist with whom he walked the Kerry mountains for a year and who became his wife within 2 years of its inception. It is a mystery why this splendid concerto has not been taken up in more popular concert repertoire. ![]()

[#3903] OTL for ESL CP, Thanks for your recommendation. Let me try the LP in eBay. We've found the few most popular residents in No#1 Peiking Road are giving Dr King's 27M good comments. My last memory with the 27M was good and King's handmade IC also sounds highly promising between my TVC and OTL even in it first burn-in hour with comparison to a pair of used 0.5M KCAG. I feel itchy to hear his latest 27M development. Any plan yet to take delivery from dr King? Shall I shall give you a hand or my greedy ears? PS: to speed up the burn in period, I am now putting King's IC between my MR71 tube tuner and TVC. Will review King's IC after 50 hours.
