I must say I much prefer the 27M to the TVC, DEnnis may disagree. __________________________________________________ In fact, I have no preference on active or passive, tube or SS. I look forward to meeting a first class active preamp at a more affordable price. |

| [#3953] 27M dennis, i misread the spec about the GM20. with your correction, the input impedance is only 50K. this is really iff for a passive. cp, i'm surprised to find out that the modena has only 600mv sensitivity. try the outer set of rca. it might do better with the 50k input. if it still does not sound right, i've the feeling that this modena can't really drive your esl. unless your cd player has very low output, with the volume setting you showed, it is already driving your modena to full power and clipping. something is fundamentally wrong! |

The RCA output of the Ayre D1 is 1.5V, on the low side for a CDP but already good enough for any high level input. That is why I'm curious about the level setting which I now assume that the 12 of the clock position is not really the mid point of the preamp output. You don't have to worry about the Modena having problem with the ESL as both the Nagra and V72 matched pretty well with the Modena, Richard had listened to that and may endorse the not too bad effect. In fact, there is nothing wrong with the 27M driving the Modena which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's only I feel it's a touch too soft on the dynamic to my liking. Anyway I'll try the outer output on the Modena tomorrow. |
